Did you all watch Ali Farokhmanesh, son of former Wazzu and Iowa head volleyball coach Cindy Fredrick, sink the winning three-pointer against UNLV in the NCAA tournament last night?

I didn't watch the game but it sounds like a great shot. Who is Cindy's son going to beat next?

I didn't watch the game but it sounds like a great shot. Who is Cindy's son going to beat next? 99.9% sure that it will not be Kansas. ;D I decided to look at the UNI basketball fan message board www.panthernation.com/forumdisplay.php?f=8; the first thread was titled Regents' Budget Fiasco and UNI Sports. Who can resist looking at a thread with such a title? I copied the first post below; I wonder if UNI fans on VT have any comments because this is news to me. Hi All: My comment below was posted in DM Register today in response to the Regents' demand the UNI (and ISU) eliminate all public funds from the athletics budget: "Thanks, Iowa Board of Regents. You've just given Ben Jacobson, who has guided the UNI Panthers to the greatest basketball performance of any Iowa college in the past 7 years, an extra reason to now look elsewhere...more quickly than he might have otherwise...for a new coaching opportunity. What else should a coach do when the Regents cut his school's athletic budget by 40% or more. The Regents don't realize that, like it or not, a school's sports teams, especially those that excel on a national level, are one of the biggest student recruitment tools. UNI must cut $4 million+ out of a modest $11 million budget. I'm sure UNI has gotten much more than $4 million of added value out of its outstanding football and basketball performances. That will all change dramatically if this budget atrocity is allowed to go forward. The Regents are mainly high-dollar overhead. How much of the Regents' admin budget could we cut? A ton, I'll bet." www.panthernation.com/showthread.php?t=31416desmoinesregister.com Universities might cut taxpayer support for athletics www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20100318/NEWS/100318015/Universities-might-cut-taxpayer-support-for-athletics

Wow!! Kansas is just killing Northern Iowa. At the half, KU leads by -8 (KU 28, UNI 36). UNI has no chance in this game.

As I posted elsewhere, is today a bad day for intelligence among sports fans?
