The inaugural NCAA sand volleyball season ends with the AVCA Nat'l Championshisp in Gulf Shores, AL this coming weekend. As you see in this AVCA link ==> www.avca.org/articles/index.cfm?action=view&articleID=3704&menuID=1921Here's an overview: The four teams: Pepperdine, Long Beach State, Florida State, and the College of Charleston will be competing on Saturday, 4/28 - despite some controversy about the decision-making. The individual player championship tournament begins on Friday with pool play (4 pools of four). Six schools will have two teams competing, with four others just having one team compete. On Sunday, all sixteen teams will be seeded and compete in a single elimination event. (Picture shows UNF's Medina and Strack [foreground] - one of the 16 teams). Just to clarify some things...
The top two teams were automatically entered from each program selected for the team championships, and the remaining 8 slots were chosen by the committee.
The controversy: Some claim that an LBSU affiliate was on the small selection committee, which is a direct conflict of interest. USC has a better program in every way, but somehow LBSU was invited. Next year I don't see that happening again since it's an easy fix.

Well if SC has a superior program, than they should've been able to beat LB on their last head to head meeting.... Fact is that the inferior team WON!!!! & thats why they were selected!!!!!! geez give the Beach some credit.

USC has a better program in every way, but somehow LBSU was invited. Next year I don't see that happening again since it's an easy fix. I am a fan of Southern Cal and LBSU is the better program this year. GO BEACH! ;D

I'm not sure how impressive the level of play will be...from what I saw it was lower level open play in Florida.

I think the season was so short and lbsu improved so much in a very short amount of time that they could very well be the better team now. Sent from my MB860 using ProBoards
