How did Carli look? Was she still hurting? She seemed to be the most potent offense they had going. No sign of any cramps, but she did have a hairband malfunction.

Assuming, and after tonight any assumption is suspect, Stanford & Cal both win Friday, the top 4 is settled.
#1: Florida #2: Stanford #3: Nebraska #4: Penn State
I think the committee now has a lot of flexibility to put Cal anywhere in the top 8 they want.
I think this cements Cal headed east somewhere. One of Nebraska/Cal in Austin, Florida/Cal in Dayton, or Penn State/Cal in Pennsylvania draws seems like a certainty.

I couldn't make it and didn't monitor the match because of personal business. Can anyone describe what the heck happened? Cal coughed up Game 4 and then got smoked in Game 5. A pretty unfortunate way to lose an uncontested Pac 10 Title and Number 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. I definitely do not like their chances if they end up having to go through Penn State to get to Kansas City...

15-7. Wow. Big win for ASU. And Stanford says, "One down, One to go!" C'mon Cal, hold on to that Pac-10 Championship!! Stanford has won it for the last 3 years. The only thing Cal is holding onto is their bootstraps to try to keep a tie for this years championship. If both SU and Cal win, then they are co-champions, per conference rules. If Cal loses, Stanford wins outright, and vice versa.

Just back from tonight's Cal-ASU upset at Haas Pavilion, which can best be likened to "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events." For the Bears, the match had "a bad beginning," (first set) "the penultimate peril" (fourth set) and, finally, "the end" (fifth set). Just like the titles of three Lemony Snicket books.
It's unfortunate that Cal (24-3, 14-3 Pac-10) lost to an inferior team in ASU (13-17, 7-10), but one which had nothing to lose and everything to gain. The Sun Devils never gave up and took advantage of several miscues by the Bears throughout, including service errors, rotation errors and poor outside hitting.
Although Cal posted a .246 hitting percentage (71 k, 23 e, 195 att) and held ASU just a .201 rate (64 k, 24 e, 199 att), it was the Bears' first loss when hitting at a higher percentage than their opponent. Cal's best percentage hitter was middle hitter Shannon Hawari (14 k, 2 e, 20 att), who hit .600. Outside hitter Tarah Murrey was held to only .176 (21 k, 9 e, 68 att), not one of her better nights.
One of the key stats of the match IMO, however, was Cal was outblocked by ASU 16-11.
It was one of those nights that I'm sure the Bears would just soon forget ~ and the fans, too ~ and I know and trust that they will come back out ready to play on Seniors Day Friday afternoon against Arizona. There's still a lot at stake and a lot to play for ~ a chance to tie for the conference title, and, hopefully, a respectable seed in the NCAA Tournament.
This year's Cal team has bounced back from defeats before to put together some impressive win streaks. I'm confident they can bounce back, again.

Stanford has won it for the last 3 years. Actually, Stanford has won it the last 4 years (2006-2009).

Wow. I didn't see that one coming. I guess every team has off nights, but things just got a whole lot tougher on Cal because of this. For one thing, they have to bounce back against a quality Arizona team to get a share of the Pac 10 title, and this won't help their NCAA seeding at all.

Wow....shocking.
I tried to watch the Stanford/UA match online last night, but Stanford charges for their feed...and I refuse to pay for any internet feed anymore. The feeds usually stink and then they try to rob you by doing auto-renews.
Anyway, I ended up not paying attention to any match assuming CAL would have no problem with ASU. This is very similar to what happened to UW last season. Everyone thought they had the Pac-10 title in the bag and then Oregon comes to Seattle and knocks off the Huskies on the last night of the season. Downhill from there.
I have trouble believing Murrey's stats. She has been unstoppable most of the season. And Cal shouldn't overlook Arizona. They are a very tough team.

Maybe the team they overlooked at least a little was ASU.

Maybe the team they overlooked at least a little was ASU. I wasn't trying to suggest ASU isn't tough. They also beat USC & UCLA. Of course, in pre-season ASU lost to Utah State which is now going to the tournament. USU>ASU>Cal? After UW lost to UO on last day of season last year, I remember someone saying "this loss will get them ready for the tournament." Not so much.

I was not implying that either. I just meant maybe mentally they were not as prepared for ASU. ASU had nothing to lose.
