I must have missed something. How was that a moral victory for Arizona? They played 6 out of seven competitive sets against teams that might have destroyed them if they didn't play at the top of their game. What are your requirements for a moral victory, to be kinder to animals? That was also not the top of their game either. If Owens was on just a little bit more, it could very well have been a "W" for AZ. If Cal is the #2 team in the country then AZ has a good opportunity to do well in the NCAA.

If ants were beavers we'd be out of trees. Cal concentrated on stopping Owens, and did it; Stanford figured her out after a while too. Arizona should do well in the tournament, but I wouldn't book that final four trip quite yet.

Lots of teams will do well that don't make the final four, don't put words in my mouth that were not said...

In the last possible year, Cal avoids being one of the teams to never win the Pac10 title. Those teams are now Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State, and Arizona State.
(Stanford has the most titles: 13, or 14 if they beat ASU tonight)
Next year I assume the records start clean, with the formation of the Pac 12

Cal has won set 4 25-21 and the match 3-1. BC, do you know what days Cal's bid is for next week? The P.A. announcer's claim that the tournament begins next Friday might be a statement about a potential Cal-hosted sub-regional... it certainly isn't a correct one about the tournament as a whole. Didn't Cal have a Thursday-Friday sub-regional not so long ago? Both men's and women's basketball are on the road that weekend; that's been an issue in previous years. If they put up a bid. I would think Fri-Sat.

Congrats to Cal on their 1st ever Pac10 title. You know I'll be cheering for ASU tonight.
Was at the match and I was very impressed with Dosty, from the front and back row. I thought Cal did a good job rebounding from the loss to ASU, but they still have work to do. The passing was definitely better tonight. Murrey was hot and cold, but good that the other players were able to step up, esp Hawari and Lloyd. Johnson started slow but picked it up toward the end. Blocking was good tonight, but they need to follow up with good transition swings. Good win for the program and let's hope they keep it up in the tournament. I hope we get to host next week. Go Bears!!!
Btw, anyone know where I can get a Pac10 champions tshirt? Went to all the campus stores and couldn't find any. Some of them even ran out of normal volleyball t-shirts.

Congratulations to the Bears on winning their first Pac-10 volleyball title with their victory Friday afternoon over Arizona on Seniors Day. It was truly a team effort all the way, and a personal proud moment for me, having been a season ticket holder during the Carli Lloyd Era of Cal volleyball. I salute Coach Rich Feller and his outstanding staff for guiding this year's very talented group that included not only Lloyd and Tarah Murrey, but also the middles ~ Shannon Hawari, Kat Brown and Correy Johnson ~ and a very unsung hero leading the back row in libero Robin Rostratter.
It was very enjoyable being able to meet and congratulate many of the players after the match, including Lloyd and reserve middle hitter Tia Gaffen, and to offer words of encouragement going into the post season.
The Bears rebounded nicely today against Arizona after their loss to ASU on Wednesday night. You could sense that they were determined to find a way to win ~ and the Haas Pavilion crowd of 1,034 was very vocal in its support of the Bears. Even though the Bears couldn't quite find a way to stop Arizona's Whitney Dosty (30 kills), they did a good job of stopping the rest of the Arizona attack while outhitting the Wildcats, .272 to .170. Murrey and Hawari combined for 30 of the Bears' 61 kills and Cal out-blocked Arizona 14.5-8, always a good sign.
Like everyone else, No. 2-ranked Cal (25-3) awaits its post-season fate on Sunday afternoon. Entering the NCAA tournament on a winning streak is encouraging. The adventure continues next week ~ and, hopefully, Cal will host first and second rounds (my sources tell me they bid to host Friday and Saturday, and for once, there are no basketball scheduling conflicts to deny the opportunity to host). In the meantime, the journey has just begun ~ and, I think Carli Lloyd has a few more chapters she'd like to contribute to what has been a best seller of a season for the Bears.

Link to purchasing a Cal Pac-10 volleyball champions t-shirt: www.calbearsshop.com/Cost appears to be $19.99, plus S+H.

The timing (especially noon) is strange, but I suppose they're trying to avoid scheduling on a football day. I thought the football game is tomorrow. Thus Friday. However - I didn't quite understand why at noon when all other Pac-10 starts today are at 5 or 7 PM. The earliest start time I'd ever seen (on the road) was 10 AM EST for a Cal start, which was 7 AM PST.

I believe the reason for the early start time today was because the Cal women's basketball team is hosting a four-team invitational tournament that starts at noon Saturday. Very shortly after the conclusion of the match today, and while the team was still meeting with fans on the court, event management had already torn down the volleyball net and started putting up the basketball backboards. I can only assume that Cal and the other three teams were scheduled for practice time this evening in addition for ample time to clean up Haas Pavilion for the basketball event. It was very nice to see that 1,034 came out to see the Bears when they could have been holiday shopping in San Francisco.

Washington would probably have 5000 fans there to see the team clinch the conference championship. I don't get why only 1000 show up to see the first ever championship being clinched.

It's tough to get fans anywhere on this holiday weekend. So many kids go home from every school.
