It's a done deal, Irvine takes set #3, 30-22 and the match 3-0.
Clark, Wilson and Dufault, in double-digit kills. Ammo is running the offense well and Irvine outblocks Stanford 18 (BAs) to 2 (BAs). The libero battle was tied up between the Hawaiian boys Asuka (UCI) and E. Shoji at 14 apiece.
Irvine onto Pacific.

Couple of thoughts...
Ammerman ran a fast-paced offense that Stanford couldn't handle. Stanford's middles were scrambling furiously almost every point and looked lost. As a result, a lot of Irvine's hitters were virtually up against solo blocks the entire match.
Carson Clark can put the ball away and has a nasty jumpserve. On one jumpserve, his ball actually curved back into the court and landed in a corner.
Stanford's served died out after Irvine's passers were giving Ammerman dime after dime.
Irvine's pipe option was effective against Stanford, especially during transition plays.
UCI deserves to be #1 right now.

Stanford should have had the first game. They made a few untimely nets to give it to irvine at the end. Maybe that woulda changed things a little, but overall Irvine was really impressive. It would taken a nearly perfect performance to beat them tonight. Best team in the country hands down right now.

Don't quote me, but with the Irvine victory over Stanford combined with the BYU upset of Pepperdine, the Anteaters should be the MPSF Regular Season Champs-- am I right? Yep! Congrats to speraw and company for getting everyone building to the same point at the perfect time. They have peaked at the best of all possible times. Wynne is playing great, DuFault looks amazing, and Wilson looks like his springs are still in great shape. By the way, if Ian Wynne gets the starting job net year, will we get to hear such phrases as "a Wynne-Wynne situation" or "Ian-DuFault" (in default)?

ucsdfan - you are a poet and don't even realize it ... but no doubt uci is very hot, and the pounding of stanford impressive At most matches, the announcing is good for informing the fans of what has taken place, but I appreciate the unique comments at UCI home games. The Pepperdine announcer is wonderful, but being the dean of the mic, he's pretty locked into his same witty comments like "Malibu roofing company", etc... I have only been to a couple of games at the Matadome and Pyramid, and I don't have much of a recall for the announcing. USC has a bunch of different voices making various announcements, but I can't recall any making me laugh. UCLA has been through what seems like as many announcers in the last five or so years as Al Scates goes through starting lineups in a season. Maybe there is a blue curtain for announcers too. All that leads to ol' Rob on the mic at Bren (and Crawford). He's a great announcer who changes up his comments depending on the roster. His voice follows the flow of the game. Other than the fact I think he's trying to hit on every "Eater Nation" t-shirt model that he introduces , it's pretty flawless and makes for a great fan experience. In fact, I was really impressed a few games ago when he flawlessly announced Dr. Ayala's resume (which included a veritable schmorgasborg of molecular biology terminology) during a mid-game presentation. Thanks Rob! So I await next season in the hopes of Ian Wynne getting the starting setter gig, so that I can hear all the new catch phrases that "Ian" and "Wynne-Wynne" present. Of course he loses the chance to say "Spittle-to-Spittle-to-middle" and "Ammo locked, loaded, and fired for the kill."
