www.starbulletin.com/sports/20090512_Hawaii_Beat.htmlAccording to the article the Warriors has also landed a commitment from an incoming setter, Arik Metzger... Is it a typo in the article because, the article states that this is UCLA all-American Brandon Taliafero's brother...I would think that this would be the brother of another UCLA all-American, Stein Metzger not Taliafero?

The part about him being Taliaferro's brother is correct wile the part about him playing libero for his club team is not at all. Arik has the best hands of any setter in this class but his size (6'1) and his temper hindered his recruiting.

I haven't been active with the Mens team lately, but hearing these recruits commit to UH makes me wanna go back.

It will be interesting to see if Arik will be the starter. He comes in with a good amount of experience being a three year starter for San Clemente High school (one of the top programs in so cal) as well as setting for the best 18's club team. Not to mention his blood line and the extensive work he has put in with his brother. Watching Arik for the past few years I have witnessed some explosions and whiny behavior that makes the USC boys look well behaved so hopefully the new Hawaii coach is able to even his temperament.

He better tone down his temper because we won't have any of those outburts. We don't deal well with bad behaviored people.

Arik uses his mom's last name.
I've seen him play club a few times and have always been impressed with the way he runs his offense and he is very fiery, which I like. As long as he doesn't go after photographers like SC players lol , he wil be fine.

Maybe the change of scenery from the extremely competitive SoCal lifestyle to a more laidback atmosphere of the island will keep his temper in check. We have one player from the men's and one from the women's vball programs with the same reputation coming in. Both have been fine young people in our program and community. Jim Clar was a self-admitted "punk" coming to HI from NY and Amber Kaufman's turbulent teenage years was a subject of a newspaper article. Both turned out to be well-liked and respected around the vball program. I think HI fans would love it if Arik turned out like either Clar or Kaufman.

Eh, Taliaferro could be hotheaded at times during his UCLA days. Is his brother sorta pudgy like he was?

Alot of my favorite Hawaii players have been hotheads though. I was told Arik was going to UC Irvine so i am surprised he has commited to Hawaii. I am glad though, we needed a setter of his caliber badly, especially after losing Kyle Lawrence to Ohio State and Myles Maugututia to Stanford. I would take Arik Metzger over those two though.

I wonder how many players from this current team are staying? The past couple years, there have been a lot of players that have left after a year or two...

I think it's gonna be dependent on the type of relationship they create with the new coaching staff as well as the environment the coach is able to create. If the new staff is successful with that I think win or lose kids will stay.
