Josh Walker is home here in Virginia Beach for a few weeks before returning to Hawaii for the fall term. As he did last summer, Josh has been playing in a few beach tourneys. He usually plays with Mike Warren, another local guy, who plays in college at NAIA power, Lindenwood University in MO.
A few weeks back, Josh & Mike were 2nd in an EVP beach event in Virginia Beach. They lost the final to a couple beach veterans who really know how to play in the sun, sand, & a light breeze which were all factors. Throughout the one day event, Josh's speed, quickness, & agility were on full display.
Josh seems to be a good guy. He is friendly & well spoken with an easy smile. If he applies himself in the classroom, he should do well at Hawaii.
He told me that he has not yet met new coach, Charlie Wade, but that they have talked on the phone a couple times. I joked with Josh, saying that coach Wade would probably be at the airport to meet his plane when he returned to school. Wait.....maybe that's not a joke......

Great kid Josh is. Have enjoyed watching him grow from our ball boy to what he is now. I haven't seen him in a few years, but still follow him. Needs to work on his passing to ensure a spot on the court.

He really is a very nice young man. If he is allowed to be exposed as a passer, though, UH could be in trouble.

Josh is super fun to watch, when he is ON, he is unstoppable ( like his last match against USC) He could be an all american if he stays focused.

Based on what I've read and seen of the new German opposite coming in, Walker won't beat him out at Opp. And unless he's put in some serious reps, he doesn't pass well enough to beat out Hunt. He could possibly beat out Tuaniga, but I don't see it happening unless his passing improved by leaps and bounds over the past year. He has tremendous physical talent, but he's still only 6'1". If he wants to be an All-American, he needs to be an all-around skills player, like a Chad Strickland or Aaron Wilton. He doesn't pass, block, or defend well enough to be at that level yet. He's still fairly one-dimensional.

Him making all american is just wishful thinking on my part. I do believe he can put up all american numbers offensively though. I think he can beat out Tuaniga for a starting spot. Hunt is as good a passer as Tuaniga now. Hunt and Cervantes will probably be the main passers.

I think Walker in that 2nd OH spot would make UH a much stronger team.
