Was just going to post this as well... hence the screen name. Never posted on here before, but thought this was some juicy news I found out.
Turns out Wade offered former UH wahine assistant Ryan Tsuji the job. Spotted them talking at a UH game couple weeks ago and got it confirmed from one of Tsuji's close friends that he was considering it. Interesting....

Does anyone else but me find it a bit weird if it is Tsuji to take the assistant role? I mean, he did a lot with the Wahine and I don't doubt he getting to be a very good coach. But what does he bring to the men's team? For the Wahine, he can simulate some tougher serves or blocking or hitting. I'm having some trouble trying to imagine him doing the same for the men. Did he do anything for the prep boy's volleyball club? I could see him being very effective in terms of recruiting.

Roy... was thinking the same thing...I know he did a great job with the Wahine, but not sure what he would bring to the men's. Never met the guy but a friend of mine know him well. He said that Tsuji did coach boys club before and that his boys team won a national championship at JO's. I know he coached and started Imi Ike with Danelson, Mafua, and Kaaihue as well. But who knows what will end up happening. I say bring back Scott Wong!

Maybe kind of late in the game to go out and find someone more qualified. Wade is in a position where they just need someone...anyone.... to fill the slot. It would be easier to get someone who lives here to accept the job.
Anyone have any inside scoop on why Mason left? Did Mason feel irrelevant as a second assistant? Was he not seeing eye to eye with Wade? Was Brian Beckwith taking away his importance as a coach? It is strange for someone to get promoted from part time to full time and then quit before the season start.

Wouldn't be surprised if Wade just sticks with Fisher, McInerny and Beckwith.

Does the position offer enough money to get Pono Ma'a to consider the position?? I think Pono would be a good choice..however I think Pono is shooting for something higher than the second assistant position which is usually relegated to grade checks, getting gyms ready, and all those other "small" stuff. Maybe thats why Mason left?

Maybe thats why Mason left? I'm sure Mason knew of his duties before he took the job so I don't think that would be a reason why he left... But yes I think Pono Ma`a would be a great addition...but I'll also agree it's going to be hard to find a good qualified assistant this late...

I agree... Pono Ma'a would be a great candidate...but from what i know is that he is busy with his Boys 14U club team KaUlukoa, which has won 2 back to back national titles at Boys JO's (2009-13U, 2008-12U) and his son is apart of that team. So we'll see.
I would love to see one of the Wong brothers back here!
I hope they do not hire Ryan Tsuji... the next thing I dont want to see is a womens coaching staff on a mens team which is already lacking the alpha male characteristics.

Scott Wong is an associate HC of the women's team at USF..he is not going to come back to UH and be a second assistant. Scott has paid his dues as a volunteer assistant at UH a few years back and had a few good years as a second assistant with Pepperdine. He has probably reach a point in his career where he is looking for a HC position.
As for Kevin..is he even in coaching? It would be a good start if he wants to get into coaching.

I hear a few of the candidates were Kevin Wray and Kevin Wong. Wonder when they will announce who it is.
