 John Speraw Interview

Hey everyone,

Check out Coach Speraw's interview on UCI's college radio station:

The man's got great focus-- he's definitely an Al Scates disciple.

That was a great interview. Speraw is a great ambassador for the sport. The Bren Center could be a new hotbed for college MEN'S volleyball this year if their fans come out. Those Hawaii matches on Jan 12 & 13 will be incredible, and I'm sure a lot of Hawaii fans will be there for those. I sure wish all the coaches and admins for their respective schools would publicise their programs and equally important, the sport as much as Speraw is doing in getting the mass press to start covering it. It's simply shameful that the L.A. Times ignores Men's VB.

Speraw talked about how impressive he was of UCSB this year as a top 2 team. So watch out for them.

The one exception I will make to the interviewer's comment was that he said to Speraw, "You beat UCLA SOUNDLY twice, only to see the Bruins win it all." I know he's hyping and it's a homer interview, but those two matches were much closer than that, 32-30, 30-28, 30-24 in the first in January with our #1 point producer not even suited up and our starting middle going down with a torn meniscus in that match. Then in the second match in March it was 31-29, 30-27, 30-25 without our injured middle and top scorer just getting back into his game after surgery. I would not define those wins as "soundly" and it should not have been much of a surprise with those scores that UCLA was on an upward trend.
