I have heard and seen so many complaints about coverage of the Men's finals, and about the new MTV movie "All I Got". To me, any time volleyball is on tv it's a good thing. That goes for commercials, beach, indoor, CSI, whatever. Others say if it's not quality than it shouldn't be televised. Let the debate begin!

I can honestly tell you that I was one of those people that complained about how the Mens Final Four was televised on tv. But you have a point there, about exposure of the game. I think any kind of exposure is good for the sport of Volleyball. Good one....baldyballer!

What if that exposure makes the game incomprehensible to the casual fan and irritating to the ardent fan?
If the exposure drives people away -- not so good.

Any kind of exposure is good as long as they focus on volleyball and not on other things that does not relate to volleyball.

I can tell you that between 100 to 300 people a week like to view the match video on my web site. The viewers are from all over the US and now up to 13 different countries (the website considers PR a country)..... So yes, I think that exposure to volleyball on TV is a good thing. One of the other challenges is how to tell potential viewers that a match will be on TV with a lack of marketing dollars, it is by word of mouth or message boards like this. Maybe if we all saved up our pennies and put one single 30 second commercial on, during the Superbowl, that advertises volleyball on TV.....

All exposure is good exposure, but that doesn't mean we can't mercilessly mock and deride said exposure.

Exposure or not, the repetition (e.g., high outside sets) killed me...

Beggars can't be choosers. There sure as heck isn't enough volleyball shown on North American TV.

So let me get this straight: bad volleyball, presented poorly, would be good for the sport?
A 10 and under game of the week, say, with play-by-play by OJ Simpson and color commentary by Mike Ditka?

All I know is in hollywood even negative publicity seems to be good for a celebrity. The more people see the sport the better. I think the next step should be more coverage on sportscenter or at least on the bottom ticker.

I've been told VB will never get that kind of coverage until people can bet on it.

Until sponsors can be found that want to provide enough endorsements for regular coverage the networks like ESPN will not go out of their way to provide significant coverage of volleyball and especially indoor volleyball.
When the AVCA / NCAA are paying for the majority of commercials that get aired during the national championship broadcasts it shows that there are few corporate sponsors of the sport and therefore not something that is a reasonable money maker for any networks to air on a regular basis.
Volleyball will get more coverage if / when it can show that there are companies willing to purchase commercial time during broadcasts instead of the NCAA / AVCA having to purchase boardcast time and having to get their own sponsers.
The networks pay the NCAA to get rights for broadcasting men's football and basketball while the NCAA has to pay the networks to broadcast sports like volleyball. As long as that's the case then volleyball will continue to struggle.
