After 10 straight road matches and one of the toughest schedules in the nation, UCSB plays UC Davis tonight at home. Then again, is it really a home match if half your team has never played there before? Anyway, Davis should be a win, but the Gauchos had better use this match to fix some of their problems. Their next three matches will be Cow Poly, Loyola Marymount, and the Beachless. Pablo I'm sure will predict three losses for us in those three matches. We really need to pull out at least one win out of those three matches. Too bad, no more game tracker for UCSB, our AD sucks. We need a lot of work on serving and blocking. Again, we start two players at 6'3" and one at 6'2". We should be blocking far better than we are. Also, our Aces/errors ratio is pretty bad.

Gauchos win 30-24, 30-17, 30-19 not bad for the first home game (just a little worse than poly beat davis)

Not a very big crowd tonight. Davis started out strong (or we started out week, I'm not really sure), but then they just fell apart early in game 2. The rest of the match was pretty boring and I was focused more on talking about string theory and supergravity and lasers with the fella sitting next to me than I was on the match. What I did notice is that we only had 14 players dressed (3 sitting around in the stands); I'm wonderin why.
Also, Saraceno has a mean serve and Deborah Leite is fun to watch. By the way, we have a lot of DS's. I think Kathy put 4 of them in (counting Emily, the libero).
Brandt did all of the setting. She made a few mistakes in either setting to low or to far in front of the middle, but for the most part, I think she did fine. It's hard not to be please with her, since the sets weren't all going to the same place every time like they were last year. It would have been interesting to see Kayce or that Michelle Barnet girl step in, but oh well.
Now, where did I put that beer.....

Maybe Kathy is going to try and redshirt them?

I haven't been around for awhile... is the green/yellow/red based on # of posts?

wouldn't it make sense for gaucho fans to be gold?........Maybe red for SC or Stanford?

So after seeing Deborah Leite play, I had to check out her bio on the Gaucho web site. Not much info there, but apparently her mom was a 12-year member of the Brazillian national team. What really caught my attention is that she graduated high school (or whatever the equivalent is in Brazil) in December of 2004. That was a year and a half ago. She apparently entered UCSB as a freshman this fall, so I wonder what she's been doing for the past year in terms of volleyball. Anyone know anything about her?
All I know is that she's small and scrappy, and really fun to watch. I doubt Emily is in danger of getting replaced right now (I think she's the captain, actually), but who knows? Leigh Stephenson got a lot of playing time back there too, and did okay. I guess it's hard to get an accurate asessment when the only game I've seen has been against Davis.
Hopefully I can make it to the Cal Poly game on Saturday. I'll be out cruising the channel all day looking for sharks, but the plan is to be back at the dock by 6, with all body parts in tact.
