Now I understand why so many digs are being recorded by this team. Nobody terminates, and the rallies are long.

1st game UCSB - looked like they were asleep - missed serves hurt. 2nd game all right (UCSB won) - a little off at the end of the game. 3rd game they gave it away they had match point. 4th game UCSB was on the court but was never inthe game. CAL POLY coach keep on his team till the last point.

Yeah it was Ugly. Poly actually looked good in game one and UCSB looked decent in game 2 (except that we lead 29-20, but couldn't finish until 30-26. Game three was ugly on both sides, but we allowed them another long run from 23-18 to 25-23. Game 4 was very ugly

Drat. I want UCSB to win as much as possible now so that the Badgers' loss to them doesn't look as bad. At least it is looking like an aberration now that Wisconsin has rebounded to win the last four matches.

Good Grief, we just sucked. 47 kills, 44 attack errors, 7 recieve errors, 6 ball handling errors, hit 0.019, Out blocked 14.5 to 5.
Kathy needs to find some players that are willing to come to play, the team out there tonight obviously did not.

Lots of problems passing. One of the Poly players served for something like 8 straight points. After about the 5th one, I said to the guy next to me that it might be better if they just try to get the first one up, forget the attack, and hope for the best on defense.
Brandt seemed to think she was Ashley Dutro for a while there and kept setting the outside against a stacked block, not mixing it up at all. There were lots of panic sets too.
Saraceno was not on tonight. She had a hard time getting her hand over the ball and was just launching it.
In the 3rd game, Jamie ran her shoulder hard into the bleachers as she was chasing down a shanked pass. It was her right shoulder (her hitting one). She looked like she squared up well before impact, but those bleachers aren't exactly a flush surface, and there was noticeable pain on her face afterward. Hopefully she's alright. She kept playing.
Our middles seemed to be doing pretty well, but they had to work with a lot of mis-sets (and do quite a bit of setting of their own). The timing just wasn't there tonight.
Deborah Leite played awesome. She started off a little weak, shanking a pass on her first shift (or whatever you call a period of time on the floor in volleyball), but she collected herself and had some of the best digs of the night. (The others belonged to Cal Poly's libero, Kristin Jackson. She's REALLY good.) There were several bullets launched at Deborah from point blank and she kept getting 'em up. Like I said, she's really fun to watch.

Saw the match, some observations- passing was the biggest problem for UCSB, but even with that the pivotal game 3 was tied at 30 and they had a chance to win it. Disagree with your other observations about the match-UCSB's offense worked well when the passes were on target- Waldowski, Quirarte and Brandt ran the middle effectively. Bad passes forced the offense to the outsides. UCSB is 1st in the Big West in kills/game and assists/game, 3rd in hitting percentage, with 4 players ranked in individual offensive categories-obviously when they pass accurately the offense executes well. Singling out players for criticism (especially the two freshmen?) seems pointless, and this case was also an inaccurate view of the match. Saraceno had the fewest attack errors and the best hitting percentage of the outsides- Brandt ran the offense effectively when the passes allowed it- sets were well distributed with 5 UCSB attackers all getting at least 25 sets (more balanced distribution than Cal Poly). Cal Poly served tough, UCSB passed poorly, Cal Poly blocked more effectively, UCSB had too many unforced hitting errors- the two teams were fairly even in all other statistical categories- end of story. Regarding the negative reference to Ashly Dutro- she is currently the starting setter for the 12-2 LMU team. How about if we just don't make negative comments about current and former players?

I see the UCSB PC police has arrived at volleytalk. How about if we don't tell others what to post?
