This is the first time I've gotten to see the Baylor team certain new VTers have made so much noise about. I'm going to say that their hitters are still just ok, but I'll admit their setter is a surprise. She looks great even with some crummy passes. It's a little hard to see the lateral distance from the net due to the endline camera angle, but the ball comes off her hands very lightly. Very pretty to watch.

Oooh.... that rally was all Hooker. She dug the left side hitter, took the swing, got dug then completely roofed the return hit.
But Baylor up 12-10.

Jerritt, why do you have Moriarty and Acevedo on front row together with your weakest middle?? No wonder you don't get higher block numbers.
Jennings is completely unable to dig the line shots on the slide.

NEW SETTER PLEASE, or just give Jenny Andrew a chance. How much worse can she do? I bet none, and we will see better blocking. Then put Michelle in to play defense and run a 6-2...and we need Magee so bad right now...Love seeing Hooker coming up big and having 4 SOLO blocks!

I just got home from this game. I have to admit that I was very impressed with the level of both teams. Nobody gave nothing to anybody. Yes, Texas could not pass, and certainly did not block, but their hitters were very good specially when it matterred the most. I agree about Michelle, I don't know if she's hurt, but certainly does not seem the same player as last season. Hooker and Engle, great future if they end up with any shoulders left at the end of this season. This looks like the starting of a new showdown. As for Baylor, I have to said that after seeing all the teams in the Big XII the race for freshman of the year is down to two: Engle (Texas) and Taylor Barnes (Baylor). This kind was amaizing tonight, her set in tight situations were almost in the money, and when she got her service going Texas could not stop it. If she gets more athletic... oh boy I'm telling. Baylor Seniors Nicole LeBlanc and Desiree Guilliard-Young really tried their hardest and put their hearts out there tonight. Desiree looked most of the time like the dominant force she was expected to be for Baylor, and Nicole was very consistent all night. I have a lot of fun watching the excitment of this one. I think both teams will get better after tonight, but I'll be specially careful if I'm playing Baylor next 'cause that's a hungry team and has tons of weapons.

This was a great match. Baylor deserved to win it but came up short. After playing on the road in Oklahoma on Wednesday night, getting back a 3am and playing Friday at UT, it was an amazing effort by the Bears. They played with such toughness. After winning game 1 they were up most of game 2 as well. At 26-26, Hooker hit a ball a foot wide on an angle hit and the **(&*&^^ called it IN!!!! Next serve hits net and drops in for an ace. Such bad breaks!! Could have won game 2 and Game 4 was just great volleyball with the Bears winning 33-31. Texas was just too good in game five with 10 kills and zero errors. Baylor was close with 8 kills and 2 errors. It was a loss but BU looks like they are going to another level and I hope this gives them confidence. They could possibly win 4 or 5 of their next 6 if they play like this.

At this point, there's no reason why Barnes shouldn't be Big 12 freshman of the year. She's a really intelligent player and obviously has taken Baylor to a whole new level. However, I think she'll be passed up by much more athletic players such as Engle in the future.
