I've only seen Main set once in person and that was last year, so my judgement is certainly open to doubt. However, in that one game, Main set very poor. I was really surprised to witness that given all the great press she gets. I really thought she was one of the weakest players on the court that night. I thought Stone would actually pull her. Perhaps she just had an off night. Like I said I only saw her play once, but that one match she was the problem for OSU. I haven't seen them play this year.

...... and if she had even decent middles, OSU would be solidly in second place in the Big Ten. Unfortunately, she doesn't, and they won't be....

I saw Main a few times last season, when Myers was manning one of the middle spots. They had no trouble in connecting on either quicks or slides, and Myers hit for a terrific percentage. Now that their are two new middles, and that connection and success is no longer there, how can you possibly fault Main? She's been the constant, she hasn't changed. Is she over-rated? Maybe a little. But she's certainly a well above average D1 setter, and if she had even decent middles, OSU would be solidly in second place in the Big Ten. Meyer was playing middle both last year and last night when I saw Ohio State. She set Meyer poorly too. Also, the outsides, both years. And even with Meyer, she set into the stacked double block. I like Meyer a lot. Their other middle, Felicia Jones, while short (5' 11") is a good hitter. (Except when the ball is set into your armpit, which happened once last night. Main is the problem. With a decent setter, Ohio State would be a tough team.

With a decent setter, Ohio State would be a tough team. C'mon people, Main was First team All Big Ten the last two years. She's probably not the problem. Your quality of players in a couple of spots is down this year, and I don't think even Courtney Thompson of Washington or Kehoe from Stanford would be the answer right now to the Buckeye's problems. They were a horrible blocking team last year, and they are only marginally better this year in that area. Meyer was moved back to middle to improve both the offense and defense from that spot. But now you lose her left side contribution. They're stuggling with the same problems Michigan has, which is why the Wolverines moved Miller back to middle. Without decent middles in the Big Ten, you can forget it.
