The gophers win in 4. The Boilers will drop and the gophers will rise.

This was a very well-played match. Purdue played great in games 1 and 2 -- game 2 was a crucial one for the Gophers to win.
Purdue was up 11-2 in blocks after 2 games and had only 5 other hitting errors, 2 of which were backrow attacks by Merlau.
Purdue also served great, all night long -- especially Dildine and Shondell. 11 aces and only 6 errors.
And yet they still lost. Cumpston had 22 kills (I think) and hit .370-something. The Gophers outblocked them 10-3, by my count (boxscore is a little different), after game 2. Bowman had some big kills to close out game 2 (4 of the last 5 Gopher points).
A nice win for the home team. And the Gophers are still looking to cleanup their hitting. Look out if this happens.

Over 8,000 announced in attendance, although it looked more like 5-6,000. Just imagine what they could have done with some promotion -- or some coverage in the papers.

Imagine what could have been done if there wasn't a men's hockey game being playing across the street at the same time as the volleyball match against Purdue.
IMO: The competition for fans with the hockey game was a larger factor in lower than expected attendance than the lack or promotion and media coverage.

I disagree with you Gorf. Hockey fans are not every going to be volleyball fans.

Gorf, do you really think we're talking about the same fan base?
I don't. There may be 100 people who go to U of M hockey games and volleyball matches.

Both events happening at the same time with Hockey fans known to arrive on campus well ahead of the games to spend time at S&H (and other venues) before the game, nearby parking filled more quickly, and heavier traffic does nothing other than cause anyone that got caught in the traffic heading towards William's to do whatever they can in order to get out of the traffic instead of waiting in for however long it takes to get to a parking area, then wait in line to pay the inflated $9 parking fee.
The number of fans that may (or may not) have attended the volleyball match instead of the hockey isn't necessarily a huge issues. The additional headaches in trying to get to the Arena and finding parking is a large problem.
For the William's Arena match 2 years ago when the attendance record was set by nearly 11,000 fans packing the place a large number of those fans arrived inside the arena well after the 1st game started. Tonight there were relatively few fans that showed up after the 1st game started.
How much more significant was the match promoted 2 years ago and how much more media coverage dd it receive prior to the match being played?

I've looked through the Stribune twice. Am I correct, there is NO writeup AT ALL on this match? There's a feature on Roysland and the wbb team and the women's hockey team has a recap. Heck, the women's X-country team was at least mentioned.
Looks like we have trees falling in the forest and no one there to hear them.
Do we even exist?

Well, there are apparently 8000 fans who know the result, even if they can't read about it in the paper.
Even with the newspaper mention, I bet that's more than who know what happened to the cross country team.
