Oh come on, there is a little crow. You had your Goph's banished out of the poll in your weakest of moments. I have to think the poll has some affect on the seading commitee. As sorry as it is at times, it is a poll by college coaches, it has to have some impact.

OK, Ruffda, but you did say Minnesota wouldn't leapfrog anyone unless they lost -- I believe you said maybe San Diego -- and, um, they did leapfrog several teams that didn't lose. I'm no fan of the poll, either. All I'm saying is it seems like the trend is for the voters to actually pay more attention to quality wins as opposed to the blind punish-losses format at the start of the season before it was clear what was going on. I'm not making predictions here but it would be swell if some voters would take a look at Utah and BYU (and still Purdue) to see if they can remember what they're doing so high. Utah's schedule is not "relatively" weak, as someone in here suggested. It's just weak. On the other hand, as someone else suggested, it does not look like they'll be losing any time soon, so does the poll have to keep bumping up them up as others lose until they're in the Top Five?

And/or wrong.

Anyway, it's a nice surprise, but one, as you've said, not too put too much stock in. If we believe the poll when it starts to get things right (or righter), we have to believe it when they're idiots, too, I guess.

Maybe the Gophers got credit for beating Cal Poly?

A month later? That's crazy and, undoubtedly, right on the money.

Since Cal, Santa Clara and Wisconsin have presented opportunities for the AVCA voters to shake up the order in 8-17 on the poll, might this be an excellent week to consider ranking the Big Ten teams closer to where they're actually ranked in the conference?

I have no problem with that. Minnesota now should be ahead of Wisconsin and Purdue.

I think that Minnesota and Wisconsin will be 13/14 - I'm not sure what order they will be put in by the coaches, but I think Minnesota should be ahead based on recent results.
Wisconsin will have their chance to prove the poll wrong in Madison later this season. However, a 9-1 record in the first half of the big ten season is incredible for the gophers (considering their start to the year), so they should be rewarded by being the second ranked big ten team.

There is no correction. It's simple. Teams above them lost.

There IS a correction -- or, anyway, should be -- Purdue is above them. Purdue did NOT lose. If the poll were "correct," they'd be below the Gophers. That's the point, H'IB

That's the point, H'IB You guys are only considering the conference season though. Minnesota still has the baggage of the losses earlier in the season when they were without all their players. For those that are voting just on the records and who the teams won/lost to, that's a HUGE blemish!

I think the records are comparable even when you figure in those losses, so the team that has been hotter in conference play (Minnesota) should be ranked higher.

I feel that MN should move to at least 12 based upon their play of the last month. Wins against 4 teams that were ranked ahead of them at the time (Michigan, OSU, Purdue, WI). Lone loss was a 4 game match to PSU on the road. The loss to LSU early in the season is looking less like a bad loss.
