Ok so the season is almost coming to the end and with conference play ending the next two weeks who is the best libero you have seen this year. I have seen a lot of matches and I cant decide. I have seen Cusack (Florida) Miyashiro. (sp) (Wash) and Donohue (ASU) and this weekend I saw Seilhammer of U$C. Wow, I was amazed how good this girl is. She pretty much was the reason that SC won this weekend. I think she would be 1st team AA this year. The volleyballs seilhammer dug up this weekend was just amazing. Any one else in this elite group ??

Of the four listed, only seen the Pac 10 liberos. Would rate them Seilhammer, who makes great passes on top of great digs, Miyashiro from Washington, who really seems to to undestand that system, and then Donahue, of course I saw the SC and Washington liberos when they were sweeping Stanford and Cal, on top of the team game, so the whole team looked great. Seilhammer really seems to read the hitter and go to the right spot; very difficult to do.

Kristin Jackson of Cal Poly is really good. And she's only a junior. I'm looking forward to seeing her next year, in a massachistic sort of way.

Excerpt from Daily Trojan:
Debora Seilhamer received some extra attention from the Cardinal faithful, who were impressed by her defensive mobility on the court. The senior libero finished the weekend with 39 defensive digs.
"I thought both Friday and Saturday Debora was at the top of her game," Haley said. "All the Stanford people were amazed by her, but I said she's been doing it for two-and-a-half years. It seems like people are just now starting to figure it out."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe that will convince John Dunning and Stanford coaches to go out and recruit liberos/DS on scholies instead of going after OH/MB to be converted to liberos.

Stanford has a good one coming in next year. Thank god for a good libero...will make a tremendous difference.

Seilhammer is by far the best libero in Pac 10. Miyashiro is not even close. I haven't seen Cusack enough, so no comment there.

I have not seen Seilhammer this season, but know she's pretty damn good. Best I have seen this season is Cusack.

By the way, Seilhamer is coming close to breaking the Pac-10 career digging stats. She is currently at 1,923 digs, behind Zartman (2,064) and Lee (2,038).
Donohue (ASU) is not far behind, around 1600 digs and she still has another season to play next year.

Pac 10 liberos have been pretty good this decade. N. Davis, Zartman, Lee, Seilhamer, J. Davis, and Donohue. It looks like Seilhamer will pass Lee and Zartman. Donohue will probably bee there come next year.

I wonder who will take over the libero position for USC? Davis and Seilhammer will be a tough act to follow. Alli Hilgren or Geena Urango? If Gysin is unable to keep up at OH, I wonder if she would be considered for libero? She is an excellent passer and defender, but her hitting has been pretty weak this season.

I saw Cusack twice, but Seilhammer is just a notch above. Its just that she digs all those hard hit balls and places them right at the setter, she also seems to cover a lot more of the court. and reads the hitters very well. Just to think that USC plays a rotatin defense, thats even more impressive cause Seilhammer covers about half the court

I think at this point, Hilgren has the inside track to be the libero next season. I haven't seen her come in and play extensively in the backrow though she has had a couple of a excellent digs. I suspect Haley is recruiting Urango as a possible libero, but she could also provide some depth at the OH position. Regarding Gysin, I think she will be a better player next year as she regains more confidence and physicality. Right now, I think she is still playing tentatively with the knee issues at the back of her mind (see the CSTV feature on her).

Gysin may still have her knee issues on the mind, but she better get over it quickly. Haley has a lot of faith in her, which is good, but there are other strong hitters coming up who are going to be chomping at the bit, and she's going to have to be able to defend her starting position. There's just not a whole lot of adjustment time on a top Div-1 team.

There's just not a whole lot of adjustment time on a top Div-1 team. I think she will get over her (mental) issues over her knees very soon. She is already gaining some of the confidence that her knees can stand up to the pressure, as seen by her plays over the last 2-3 weeks. You just have to give her a bit of time to deal with the mental block coming from 2 major injuries. Haley has been sensitive to that and is bringing her along nicely -- even when she made mistakes, he did go after her very hard like he did with Bishop and Copenhagen last season.
