Cal State Northridge wraps up their Big West season starting tonight. In their last five matches CSUN has won two matches, has three loses and two consecutive defeats to Cal Poly and UCSB. Tonight they face another tough opponent - Long Beach St and it's gonna be an uphill battle for CSUN to defeat LBSU. I don't know how CSUN is feeling right now that the season is about to be over soon but I sure want them not to feel hopeless because of the two recent matches, but I would think that they have the attitude that they can still turn things around and want to be a CSUN team that posted the most victories in one season. The defeat to UCSB had to hurt especially having a two game to none lead(I was disappointed and I'm sure they were more disappointed than I was) and they better play their butts off if they don't want to experience it again. In CSUN's first and second year(waaay back in '01 and '02) it was nice to see CSUN give teams like LBSU a run for their money, lose the match and end up with moral victories. No more moral victories CSUN - we all know it's not good enough to just take them to overtime, rally with them, have more digs and win a point or take the match to five games and lose in the end. It's not a good feeling. We're done with moral victories. Just win. Anyway - looking forward to seeing how this match goes and I'm not hoping for a win...expecting a win. Prediction: CSUN in 5 loooong games CSUN in 4 CSUN in 3 LBSU in 4 LBSU in 3 LBUS in 5 Good luck CSUN! Go Matadors!

LBSU hopes for Tourney berth Article Launched:11/16/2006 12:00:00 AM PST
The Long Beach State volleyball team plays the first of its two final Big West Conference matches of the season when it visits Cal State Northridge for a 7 o'clock contest tonight.
The 49ers are 20-5 overall and 10-2 in the Big West after consecutive sweeps of UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton.
With Cal Poly (at 13-1) having clinched the conference championship - and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament that goes along with it - last weekend, coach Brian Gimmillaro's team is trying to build the best possible tournament bid selection resume as possible.
And that would take on a blemish with a loss tonight or Saturday evening in Stockton against the University of Pacific Tigers.
The former would seem the more likely than the latter although, based on the way Long Beach has played of late, either occurrence would be a significant upset.
The CSUN Matadors take 15-10 and 6-6 records into tonight's match.
Gimmillaro, in his 22nd season as the program's head coach, will hit the 600-victory plateau at Long Beach if his team leaves Northridge and Stockton with wins.

LBSU needs this match more. Not really as far as the conference goes....we are going to the tournament as a #3 seed I suspect to either U$C or UCLA.....we just don't want to see our momentum stopped that's all......we handled CSUN pretty easily the first time around but then again, that's why they play the matches, right?
