Very entertaining match, great play on both sides of the net. What ultimately sunk Stanford was their passing. Bringing in a new libero next season will help. I was very impressed with Richards, her overall play was outstanding, she'll be missed. Tough night for Barboza, she still has 2 more seasons. Kehoe did a nice job, 4 hitters with over 30 attacks, their middles combined for 63 attacks which a great stat. Waller was phenomenal, she did a great job for Stanford.
Pavan and Larson were both on though, and that was what did it for them. Both hit .378 and get 45 attacks, both did a great job tonight.
The crowd helped out a lot. Towards the end of game 3, I thought Stanford had the game locked up. The crowd really got into it and I think that was what propelled the Huskers to get the game 3 win. After they won that game, the match was over IMO.

1998 wasn't a very good match, however. LBSU blew out PSU in games 1 and 2, and PSU returned the favor in games 3 and 4.
I think you'd need to go back further to find a final this competitive, this close. Great stuff.

best final since they went to rally scoring, at least.

I think you'd need to go back further to find a final this competitive, this close. Great stuff. Game one and 2 were all LBSU. Game 3 PSU wins 15-13, and in game 4 it looked like LBSU had it won and then tough serving propelled PSU to win 16-14. Game 5 was great, 7-2 PSU leading and then May propels her team to win 15-12 in rally scoring. LBSU really did dominate that match, but I think it was as good as 06. If you don't think it is, then 97.......best match I've ever seen on TV. So many great memorable plays, such an exciting match.

I am suprised to learn that this is only the second time the top 2 seeds played for the title. The only other time it happened was in 2002 when #1 USC defeated #2 Stanford (3-1) according to Huskers.com

Wow. I did not remember games 3 and 4 were that close. That's what old age will do to you.

best final since they went to rally scoring, at least. I agree, no other final since rally scoring can match the play and the atmosphere. Congrats to both teams.

Even though I didn't like the outcome, this was probably the best final in a while. There were so many blistering kills by Pavan, Waller, Stalls, Girard and Foluke.

It was played at a very high level, however, oddly enough there were 60 (35 for Stanord; 25 for Nebraska) unforced errors between the two teams - most of them coming from non-blocked hitting errors.

1998 Long Beach was #1 and Penn State was #2...but I don't think the seedings were set up the same way.

Depends on how you define unforced error. There were very few truly unforced errors last night. Besides that, there were so many long rallies, it was inevitable many would end in an error. By the way, 25 errors in a 4 game match isn't too bad, even when it's not played at the level this one was.
