I think the lack of vball activity is the reason for this whole thread ….. One of the 1st sayings that I heard here in the US, was “If something is not broken, don’t fix it”. Basically NU have only to figure out who is going to be their L for 2007 season and practically they will have another “championship winning” caliber team on the floor(Houghtelling, being 2005 POY must be better than Mancuso). I really don’t get it why so many people believe JC will move back to 6-2. The whole thing at that level is not to make somebody happy (M Griffin) but to win the championship. She should have been aware about that fact when she decided to transfer to NU plus any strong team has to have a “deep” bench. IMO they will make a mistake if they change to 6-2 but hey, this will give some other teams a chance …as some people posted “repeat is boring”.

Cook loves the 6-2 and with next year's team it would be a good idea. On 3 rotations you have 5 attack options, and on 3 rotations you have 4 attack options (that is if Schwartz only plays back row for Licht).
As good as Holloway is with her hands and decision making, you can't leave a 6'5'' girl on the bench if she can play. Always having a 6'5" lefty on the right side is a dream for any coach.
I'm sure he'll figure it out, and it will be a heck of a ride next fall.

I really don’t get it why so many people believe JC will move back to 6-2. I agree that we shouldn't fix what isn't broken, but all the angst in this thread comes from Cook himself who has admitted that he loves NU's stats in this offense and will give the 6-2 a hard look. I have to believe he knows what he's doing, but it seems to me that he'll be out-thinking himself if he switches to the 6-2. Pavan hitting out of the back row from the middle or left is still pretty good, but Pavan hitting out of the back from the right is virtually unstoppable. And she won't be doing that in a 6-2 except possibly on 2 serve receive rotations.

of what i heard, Delano only started playing volleyball her freshman year when the coach wanted her to come out because she was tall.. if that is so.... just think about how much she still has to learn about the sport, i watched her play at state her junior year on a very bad sprained ankle, and then a year later at state, and for a big girl, she moves gracefully.... i think she will do great at Nebraska

I get the whole attacking thing. My question is who's going to play defense behind the block??? Larson can't do it all. Pavan is medicore at best, Griffin cannot play defense.....there is no reason to believe that Tracy Stalls is going to get lightening quick over the off season. The question I keep asking that no one has answered is who has actually seen this new 6'5 girl play? Tall doesn't mean squat, see the twins at American U. :-)

Here is what I'm thinking with defense. Pavan and Licht will not let anyone hit down the line. That takes away a big bomb from a big outside hitter. The left sides will give line and make the other left side or Schwartz dig the ball. On the quick middle, they are going to have to play some defense, and be expected to just get the ball up in the air.
Jordan, Christina, and Schwartz are going to have to dig a ton of balls next year. Schwartz will probably only be on the floor for 3 rotations and Pavan for the other 3 so it's going to have to be the other two left sides digging like crazy.
I think losing the blocking on the right side with Holloway compared to Licht is a no-brainer. I'm excited to see what they come up with next fall.

How good is Licht? Is Pavan a better attacker from the backcourt than Licht is from the front court? If that is the case, why would Cook tinker with what obviously works?

Look where ignoring serve receive and defensive weaknesses in favor of offensive output got NU in 2005.... Well, OK, all the way to the championship final, but Washington exposed those weaknesses and took full advantage. Just sayin....

A point that is missing in this discussion is what if....
our next libero can't cover the floor like Busboom (whether that be Schwartz or the girl from Iowa)
what if our next DS can't pass like Schwartz (presumably the girl from Iowa)
then it makes one of the weaknesses of going to a 6-2 less valid.
The real strenth of the 5-1 lies with Holloway next year, not at this point with our backrow. Busboom was an amazing athlete, that had she been trained as a libero since Day 1 could have possibly etched her name with the likes of Gentil, Seilhammer, or Lee.

The beauty of this 07 Husker team is that they will be virtually impossible to key on in blocking. So many weapons all over the court. Licht is a very good player. The good thing for Lindsey is that while she is learning much of the focus will be on the superstars of the Husker team. She can contribute where needed and perfect those skills. The benefit of playing with Pavan is that she can learn the RS position from the very best.
