Super excited to see Stanford next year. They will certainly be a great team. The thought of them versus Nebraska in a title rematch is giving me goose bumps already. Cynthia Barboza though, don't get me wrong, I love the kid, but she needs to figure something out when she plays Nebraska. In 2 matches against the Huskers she is hitting .076 with no aces, and kills/game are below her average, (didn't look at digs, but I'm sure they're right around her average).

One "problem" Barboza must have against nebraska has to have been Pavan blocking across the net. With Nebraska's freshman opposite recruit also tall and left handed, it seems that pattern may continue. Klineman hitting v. Pavan, and vice versa, would be interesting to see; both play very tall. Or Stanford v. Texas, with 6.4" jumping jack Hooker and 6'3" opposite Engles, with Stanford getting a 6'5" freshman recruit, ditto for Texas, at MB. Makes Foluke feel petite out there, and Waller and Girard feel downright short. They all won't play, of course, but interesting to see. Meanwhile I presume Washington will go small and quick, replacing Sandell with Collymore at opposite for another 5'10" type OH. Definite contrast in styles.

1) Barboza's 1st match in finals wasn't a disaster. Furthermore she only has about 1.5 years experience at the collegiate level. I would compare Barboza's hitting ability to Logan Tom's at similar points in their careers.
2) Foluke plays taller than her height due to well above average jumping ability and tremendous quickness. She has more upside than Barboza due to lack of club level experience.
3) Klineman has been compared to Kerri Walsh coming out of High School. If she has the same talent (or greater), then "Katie bar the door." Walsh had jaw-dropping talent her freshman year. Unfortunately, Walsh never met full potential due to a nagging shoulder injury.
4) Kehoe's setting should change very little. She might look better stats-wise due to bevy of great hitters, but I would only expect marginal improvement.
5) BIG question marks for $tanford are passing and defense. Apparently with Ailes they have taken some steps to solve these issues. Not certain about Klineman's passing/D abilities, but scouting reports are good. If she can fill Kristen Richards' shoes, then the puzzle may be solved.

Klineman is an OK passer. Saw her on TV. When the ball comes directly to her, she can pass and defend well. It's when she has to adjust to the balls that are hit away from her body that give her some fits. Opponents will defnitely go after Klineman by serving tough (jump floats and knucklers) and keeping her on her toes (hitters using roll and tip shots) with the intent to mess up her offensive game.
Klineman can hit - anywhere and everywhere. She is an offensive threat at the net and behind the three meter line. Her defensive game needs work and will be exploited in the college game.
I think what's impressive about Alix is her jump serve. Long and loopy with lots of topspin. I think it has the potential to become a trademark shot of hers.

On comparing Klineman and Walsh: Walsh was a pretty good defensive player, especially at the end of her career at Stanford. Walsh also was a tremendous setter with incredible soft hands. Walsh had a great jump serve coming out of HS, but she had to shelve it after her shoulder started acting up.

If she can get her ballcontrol to even half that of Kerri's then she'll be fantastic. If Klineman takes less duties on serve receive, letting Barboza and Ailes take the bulk, then the Cardinal will be just fine.

I would think Fishburn comes in for Waller in the backrow. Then Fishburn can stay in the backrow for serve-receive!

I'd like to see Lichtman and Ailes challenge Fishburn.
That said, in the class of 2007 how does Lichtman stack up? I've heard things ranging from being a top-notch setter, a skilled RS, and some say she's the most complete player in the class. Does anyone know a college player whose play Lichtman resembles?

Lichtman wants to set in college but don;t how that will happen next year with Kehoe being a senior. She will challenge Waller on the RS position. Lichtman is also described as a very good all-around player.

Well, Lichtman won't take Kehoe's place, but she will play and find a way to play right away. Lichtman, Ailes, Barboza, and a healty Fisher would be good in the back row. Before her injury, Fisher had very good back row skills.
