Since all were tied, it goes to conference records between the three teams.
Ball State was 2-0 vs. IPFW and split with Loyola for 3-1 record.
Loyola split with Ball State and IPFW for 2-2 record.
IPFW lost both to Ball State and split with Loyola for 1-3 record.

IPFW vs LEWIS FIRST ROUND!!!! WOW! I am very excited to see this, and then a potential second round matchup with OSU? seems like IPFW and Lewis have a tough draw!

Is IPFW still the Volleydons?
I don't recall them even having a volleyvall team (at least not one with any national level achievements) when I was theoretically going to school there back in the late 70s / early 80s.
I'll still cheer for them from afar though.

Gotta like Loyola to reach the final, where anything can happen.
First round, 2 things in Loyola favor home gym...they are very tough there (beat PSU there) and it is Mercyhurst (not dissing program)
Second round, 2 things in Loyola favor Loyola is the hot team right now (important at T time) Loylola beat BSU 3-0 last time they played.

The four/five draw is always the toughest. Last year IPFW was a five seed, went into Columbus and beat Ohio State. That's especially one where anything can happen and a lot of times does. Both IPFW and Lewis had their chances, they both just ran into buz saws named Loyola and Ohio State!

idk how it makes sense....but players on ipfw said that coach ball said that they are playing mercyhurst first round...i guess he talked with miva officials or something, but personally it doesnt make sense
also if the seeds are correct as ben put it, and how IPFW is playing, i also could see loyola in the finals

Yeah, it would not make sense if IPFW were third in the seedings. IPFW has the least amount of match wins when comparing the three tied teams. Even breaking out Ball State to be second from the initial tiebreaking, IPFW would lose to Loyola in head-to-head. IPFW won only three games head-to-head, while Loyolya won five. So I am not sure how IPFW would move above to third seed and host Mercyhurst. The MIVA web site has not changed its current seedings (1. OSU, 2. BSU, 3. Loy, 4. IPFW, 5. Lew, 6. Mercy, 7. Find, 8. Quincy).

total matches played:
ohio 28 Loyola 26 Ball State 28 IPFW 24 Lewis 29 Mercyhurst 25 Findlay 30 Quincy 24 Clark 21
Loyola has the highest winning average

While that is true I'm not sure what the relevance of that is since there is no way to really guage actual strength of schedule.
Its a 5 match season. One team celebrates the rest go home and think about what might have been.

It's only a 5 match season for everybody but BYU. They can lose at the right time and still win a National Championship. A team in the MIVA has to do something amazing like Lewis did last year when they pulled off 5 game stunners of Pepperdine and BYU. I am calling Ball State. Over the summer on the Volleyball Magazine forum they were one of my 5 teams to look out for and I think it would be neat to see them get back to the Final Four after almost losing their program.
