Ciao tutti! I'm in Italy for a few months (a Firenze) and I was wondering which professional teams here have former collegeiate players on them, and if so when they might have matches near Florence that I could go check out. For those of you much more in the know about the European volleyball scene, I'd appreciate the input. Thanks

Thanks You are going to have to take some train rides from Firenze to see Americans play volleyball. The links above will be your best resourse. I think Forli' is your closest A1 team (about a 2 hour train ride), but they have no americans so you'll have to pick your opponent. Most matches are Sunday evenings around 1730. The biggest pain is finding a ride back to the train station after the match. I suggest calling a taxi. The closest teams in the second division are probably Sassuolo and Reggio Nell'Emilia. Jesi is your closest American player (Heather Bown). It's roughly a 4 hour train ride from Firenze, and about 15 minutes in a cab from the station to the gym. Piacenza is about a 3 hour trip and they have both a first and second division team, but no americans. If you want to see men, their website www.legavolley.it. I don't follow them much myself though.

Correction:
You can get to Pesaro in about 3 hours (where Berg plays). They are one of the best teams in the world, and are playing in the Champions League which means they will play some matches during the week against foreign teams - some of which will be among the best in the world.
They play their league matches (Sundays) in a tiny little village between Urbino and Pesaro called Gallo. I've never been there, but it looks like your best bet may be to take the train to Urbino and take a taxi for the 15km (roughly) trip to Gallo.
Their Champions League matches are played in Pesaro proper at a hall that is about a 4-5 km walk from the station (a few minutes in a taxi).

Another thing you can do is keep your eye on RAI3 and RAISport tv stations. They will show LOTS of women's volleyball over the next few months. RAISport will show most, if not all of the Champions League matches (3 per week for the next few weeks - all mid week). RAI 3 shows a match of the week usually Saturday afternoon or evening. RAISport will show a live match Sunday evenings also.
This week: RAISport: 10/1 (Wednesday) 18:30 Jesi (home) v. Las Palmas (Spain) - live 11/1 18:30 Kaliz (Poland - home) v. Bergamo - live 14/1 18:30 Pesaro (home) v. Chieri 15/1 18:00 Eczacibasi (Turkey - Sisam's favorite team!) v. Pesaro - delayed from 10/1 This will probably be on live on TRT or KanalD from Turkey if your satillite gets the station.
RAI 3 13/1 game starts at 15:00, broadcast will be on delay not sure what time. Altamura (home) v. Jesi.
If you can, the Pesaro v. Chieri match in Grotto (I think, you should check) would be a good one to go to. Pesaro has Berg. Chieri has Joines, and they also have Lena Ustymenko who played at Louisville. It starts at 18:30. It should be over in 3 sets, but there are great players on both teams. Lots of great Brazilians!

Hi Murina! Where do you get the VB telecast schedules on RAISport?
Anything in there on whether the Tenerife - Bergamo match in Italy on Jan 16th will be broadcast live?

It's on www.legavolleyfemminile.it on the front page. There is a box on the right "volley in TV." this box is currently showing the IECL broadcasts. For the league broadcasts look in the middle towards the bottom in the matches for the next weekend. The TV matches have a red i (this can also simply mean the match is at a different start time than the others). Here is the current schedule page for sports on all the RAI networks: www.raisport.rai.it/sportoffertatv/0,11053,,00.html Nothing yet on Tenerife v Bergamo, but I expect it will be. Historically RAI has picked up the Tenerife TV feed.

15/1 18:00 Eczacibasi (Turkey - Sisam's favorite team!) v. Pesaro - delayed from 10/1 This will probably be on live on TRT or KanalD from Turkey if your satillite gets the station. Match is being shown live on D-Spor which is available on the Turksat (Eurasiasat) Satellite and nowhere else to my knowledge...

On a side note, in today's action Team Gordon (eczacibasi) defeated Team Berg (pesaro) 3-0 in Istanbul in what can be considered a good sized upset
