Yeah, and Rita Crockett was one of the best players in the world herself, but no one will defend her coaching abilities, will they? And yes, the Chinese did win the Silver in 1996, but how tough is it to take over an already established program? Heck, I could have coached Nebraska or Stanford this season! That 1996 Chinese team had no star players. They had some pretty good ones, but nothing in the league of an Artamanova, Luis, Moser, Venturini, etc. I wonder if some of the bitterness from the US players comes from Lang Ping's unwillingness to coddle them. Perhaps Lang Ping is not the right fit for the US National Team, but I find it unfair for posters to try to discredit her w/o spelling out her specific faults. And please don't tell me it's based off of the American team's subpar results. With the exception of 3 or 4 players, we don't have the players that can win us an Olympic medal.

right... it's the ladies on the team that all suck... that's why the program sucks. Right. You honestly think anyone outside of Scott (who is showing her age) is a world class player? Ah Mow-Santos maybe...? Metcalf is ok. Seriously, Scott is the only one who has ever been considered as one of the top players in the world at her position. No one outside of the three I just mentioned are even on the map! There is one person in the USA Women's program who knows what it takes to win championships at the national team and professional level - and it's not a player! Is the complaint comming from national team players that maybe she isn't taking it serously enough...? Not working them hard enough?

Yeah, and Rita Crockett was one of the best players in the world herself, but no one will defend her coaching abilities, will they? Maybe that's because Crockett has never done anything to show she can coach... Lang has proven she can again and again and again! You may want to read up on the state of the Chinese volleyball team when Lang took over the coaching duties... While you're at it check out where they were when she left the program... Spoken as a true fan! Honestly, (1) bringing Crockett into this discussion and (2) implying that any volleyball coach off the street could walk into a top program at the world or NCAA level and keep the team at or near the top demonstrates a complete lack of concept of the job in question.

Pet peeve of mine...
It's not "Jenny Lang Ping". This is the incorrect form. Her family name is "Lang" and her given first name is "Ping". In the proper "American" or "Western" form, it would be "Ping Lang". If you wanted to incorporate her American name, it would be Ping "Jenny" Lang or just "Jenny Lang". Since we are trying to be proper with the way the Chinese call out or write their names, it's "Lang Ping". It might be Lang "Jenny" Ping if you wanted to incorporate her American name. Alternatively, just "Lang Ping (Jenny)". But NOT "Jenny Lang Ping".
For example, Jackie Chan's real Chinese name is Chan Kong-Sang (Family name + First name, in that order). He adopted "Jackie" (just like Lang Ping adopted "Jenny") and became "Jackie Chan". No one calls him Jackie Chan Kong-Sang, or even "Jackie" Chan Kong-Sang (I've seen her American name in quotes).
Jeeeeezus H. Christ! Who started this whole "Jenny Lang Ping" form?

as far as i know LP was a damn good player and a damn good coach, now wheather or not the usa women can addapt (spelling sry.) to her style is another story., there is not enough $$$ in the usa program to pay and support these women all year round so they tend to go over seas or to the beach. plus alot of these women need disapline ., but they can't hang...

The current US team sucks cause the other players like Logan Tom and Stacy Sykora, who helped them become Olympic contenders are no longer with the program. The current team consists of mostly "A-2" type of players -- still needing a lot of development.

I agree with you, Wolfgang. Why not just go with Jenny Lang?

If the Nat'l Team picks up some players from the upcoming tryout, the team will begin to take shape. Will some of the current trainees then be released? I guess the last piece of the puzzle will be when those playing overseas decide what they're doing with regard to the Olympics. I think it's way too early to be criticizing the coach.

As for Go Iowa he should worry more about his schools vb coach then the USA Coach. How many Big Ten wins does Iowa Have in the last 3 years?
