I'm sorry, but this is really getting out of hand. It just seems way to early to be making these decisions.

If you look from the perspectives of coaches, it is better to nab the top younger players early before Stanford gets into the picture! The longer the recruit holds out, the bigger is the advantage to Stanford. After all, some recruits know way early which schools they want to play for.

I'm sorry, but this is really getting out of hand. It just seems way to early to be making these decisions. Every coach will tell you that the early commitments are bad. But every coach will continue to go after them because everyone else is doing it and they don't want to/can't miss out on players. There have already been some sophomore commitments that I think are entirely premature given the player involved.

This is the common argument made by athletes and coaches in Track & Field and Swimming re. steroids. Hey, if no one was cheating and no one was using steroids, ________ (famous Olympic athlete) would still rule. But nearly everyone is cheating, so ________ has to use it too, just to level the playing field.

I guess time will tell. Why would it bother Beachman or Sliverdude? How does this effect them. I assume they will practice their philosophies with their respective daughters when it comes time. If these families believe they are ready to make a decision - more power to them.

FYI, Long Beach St. has received two verbal commitments for 2008- according to Rich Kern, they were made in 2006 www.richkern.com/vb/recruits/schoolsub.asp?let=lbs&Div=DI&VBYear=2008&View=All

Yeah, and I don't really like that either, but Brian found out that since everyone else out there is doing it you can't stand by and just let the train go by.....I can assure you that he doesn't like this trend but what is he gonna do, sit back and give these kids the impression that he isn't interested.....we have two VERY GOOD '08 recruits coming in.....by the way

I was simply stating fact.

One is completely legal the other is cheating and breaking the law.

There should be a volleyball "futures" program whereby parents can secure a commitment from a university for a volleyball scholarship 10 to 15 years in advance of their daughter's enrollment.
