Ferrell barely made JTawa's 2007 Senior Aces list: www.prepvolleyball.com/content/view/1209/153/JTawa has Herring in his Class of 2008 Top Recruits www.prepvolleyball.com/content/view/1348/157/It's too early for a final ranking, but Tawa has publicly indicated that his top recruit for 2008 would be Kelly Murphy followed by Tarah Murrey. I would think Herring would be top 10, if not top 5.

I would think Herring would be top 10, if not top 5. Ferrell is ranked 99 on the list of 100 not counting those not “ranked” on the list so she is considered more of a project player based on the list. Simmons is ranked 57. But this year’s class is a bit different from other years. There is Klineman at the top of the list but then there is a drop between her and the second player on the list. You could say it was similar to 1999 when there was Logan Tom at the top and then there was a drop between her and the next player. However, the difference between #2 and #100 isn’t as large as other years. Obviously there is some talent in this class with some great players but the 2008 class (as a whole) is more talented. The top player in the 2008 class isn’t as significantly better than the second person on the list as Klineman is with the 2007 class. That being said, the gap between the top 15-20 and the bottom of the 100 of the 2008 class is more drastic than in the 2007 class.

Just catching up on some threads after my vacation. It's good to see Herring and Ferrell coming to play for Hawaii. Just something I was wondering about is the scholarship situation for '08. It looks like Gregory and Sanders will be the only two seniors next season. Hittle was supposed to be a senior, but I think she is getting another year because of the injury, I guess Arnott's scholarship is going to Ferrell from what I've read. With Herring coming in, it looks like there is only one more scholarship available for the '08 class. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually there are no more scholarships open.
Sanders, Gregory, Houston, Hittle, Thomas, Keefe, Kaufman, Brandt, Simmons, Mafua, Ka'aihue, Ferrell
Everyone else checks in as walkons.

Looks like that one scholarship is correct, unless Shoji gives it to one of the liberos. But based on everything, Shoji will probably be looking at another middle as Thomas, Simmons, and Kaufman will be the only middles on the roster.

Actually, I'm not sure how big the gap is between Klineman and Faucette at No. 2. She's not as polished but will be a terror in college.
As for Ferrell, she's had a difficult life off the court. Physically, she's as good as players in the national top 20.

Forgot to mention that you'll need a current subscription and valid password to view the PrepVB articles, and I knew that when I posted the links. And no, I'm not going to cut and paste the relevant parts, because John Tawa knows where I live and will personally hunt me down.
