The Southern Oregon (NAIA) head coach, who will be leaving on March 21, has just announced a 6-person recruiting class for his school. www.sousports.com/News.asp?NewsID=1465He's been there for 16-years. I don't know the situation, maybe an assistant is taking over? Maybe he's moving to the athletic administration? I just thought it was a bit odd. If you were campaigning for this position, would you want this to happen? They might be great girls, but they might not fit into your system. I just thought it was a little odd and curious to learn more.

The wording of the press release, particularly near the end, makes it sound like they already have his replacement selected. It also sounds like they're trying to make this transition as seamless as possible, which could mean the assistant coach is being promoted. However, it could also mean that the current head coach had a hand in selecting his successor. Still, it is a rather odd scenario. I guess we'll just have to wait and see who they announce as their new coach.

OK a major pet peeve. The proper word is "reins", not "reigns". Kings reign, reins steer. So taking over the reins means taking over the direction of the program. I am getting less forgiving in my old age.

Phaedrus, are you going to see the new Sandler cowboy movie, "rein over me?"

I'm sure it's probably different with the NAIA rules on recruiting and announcing. Are they actually being held to their commitments by some enforceable document? Perhaps they were assured that they would have a spot.
I remember back in 1998-1999 it was a strange situation at Cal. Lee Maes did quite a bit of recruiting (as the only coach) until Coach Feller was hired. I heard the 1999 recruiting class was a combination of players Lee had recruited as well as some that Feller/Bigelow went out and got for the late signing period. I don't remember any Fall signings, so those who committed early were probably not obligated to sign in the Spring.

What's the issue here? Someone summarize for me. I don't want to read the above posts and links.

Phaedrus, are you going to see the new Sandler cowboy movie, "rein over me?" Not gonna, wouldn't be prudent. Plus, I have killed too many braincells doing much more pleasurable things than watching an Adam Sandler movie.
