The fact that Amanda Gil is not going to Stanford should lay to rest some of the accusations about admissions not being tough on at least volleyball athletes. She chose UCLA. There were reports that up to 7 college coaches (including Dunning) were making their presence known to her at a club tournament in Las Vegas the weekend she committed to UCLA. I highly doubt that Amanda Gil would have had any trouble being admitted as a varsity athlete at any D-I school.

Since some mysterious force bumped this thread back to the top, may as well update it with more recent info: From the SU WVB website: "The Cardinal will also play two matches in the Bay Area over the course of the spring. On Wednesday, Apr. 25, Stanford will meet the University of Pacific in a 6 p.m. contest at Maples Pavilion. The following week, on May 2, Stanford and Santa Clara will battle at the Leavey Center in Santa Clara, also at 6 p.m. "The Cardinal will host its Booster Barbecue on May 10 at Jimmy V's Café on the Stanford campus. The barbecue starts at 5 p.m. and will be followed by the Stanford vs. Alumni All-Stars game at 6 p.m. "

I wouldn't expect a huge turnout and thus I would think that Burnham would be a more appropriate setting. Last year when Stanford hosted Santa Clara at Burnham, there were probably only at most, 10 people who weren't with the Stanford or Santa Clara contingent (i.e., players, coaches, family, etc.). It should be interesting tomorrow. I am curious to see where Okogbaa will play. I am also excited to see Girard play. I think she'll be very improved and could challenge for All-Pac-10 honors next year. I also wonder if Erin Waller has improved upon her great sophomore campaign. I'm hoping she does.
