An additional player or two with college eligibility may be added to the U.S. Women’s National Team roster.
Among the competitions the players will be vying for roster spots for include the Pan American Cup held June 19-30 at Colima, Mexico, and the Pan American Games held July 14-19 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Other confirmed competitions on the 2007 schedule include the 2007 FIVB World Grand Prix with weekend preliminary stops in Poland on Aug. 3-5, Russia on Aug. 10-12, Macau on Aug. 17-19. The finals of the Grand Prix are in Ningo, China on Aug. 22-26.
The NORCECA Championships will be contested Sept. 17-22 at Winnipeg, Canada, with a bid into the FIVB World Cup at stake. Foluke Akinradewo (So., Middle Blocker, 6-3, Stanford, Plantation, Fla.)
Akinradewo, a two-time AVCA All-America selection and one of four finalist for the Honda Award in 2006, led the Cardinal last season with a .431 hitting percentage for third-best in the nation. Additionally, she paced Stanford with 141 blocks to average 1.44 blocks per game. Her 382 kills ranked third on the Stanford squad. Akinradewo averaged 3.90 kills per game and committed just 63 attack errors on 740 swings.
Akinradewo was the starting middle blocker on the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team that competed in the 2005 FIVB World Championships in Turkey. She already has experience playing with the U.S. Women’s National Team as she was part of the Team USA roster that placed fourth at the 2005 Pan American Cup in the Dominican Republic. Akinradewo was a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s Junior National Team that captured the 2004 NORCECA Continental Women’s Junior Championship.
Cynthia Barboza (So., Outside Hitter, 6-0, Stanford, Long Beach, Calif.)

She played on the U.S. Women’s National Team at the 2005 Pan American Cup after receiving the 2004-2005 Gatorade National Player of the Year. She earned a bronze medal as the youngest member of the U.S. Women’s National Training Team at the 2003 Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic. Barboza helped Team USA place fifth at the 2004 FIVB World Beach Championship (Under-18) in Termoli, Italy.
