Maybe the coaches had a plane to catch.....to Atlanta. I have to thank Florida for this - I do believe their win last night clinched my tournament pool! Thank you, Gators, for that!

Roysland played a little and looked like someone who hadn't played top level volleyball for four years. Roysland has NEVER played top level volleybal.

I thought Roysland did a good job at the tournament. She was definitely one of the better defensive specialists, and she hit the ball hard and in when she got a chance. Other than Tan our defense and ball handling was really lacking. Hopefully we can pick that up.

I thought it interesting that Kelly Fallon was hitting the ball better than Roysland in warmups. I wonder if she's played at all since the 2002 State Tournament?

Thank you for the reports.... Christine Tan is another state of Florida homegirl that Mary let get away. Mary did LET her get away. Mary opened the door and said, see YA! She wasnt that interested in Tan, for she thought she was too short. That is why the Tan family was very very happy to say the least when we beat Florida down there in the Sweet Sixteen.

I feel that Cowles will be the DS and Tan the libero. I just feel that Cowles can add a more all around game than Tan. Pavan did visit about three weeks ago. I would be surprised if she visits again. Rumor has it she will most likely stick to a school closer to home. It was fun watching Kyla playing back row. I agree, she made several nice passes on balls she was able to get to. I was surprised to see her on the LS and Hagerty on the RS. I thought it would have been the other way around. Not sure if Hartmann has been focusing on the setter attack this spring or not but she went to that option often in the last two matches. Dieter, Gibbemeyer, and Cowles will help next year. Probably Dieter/Roerhig on the left, Gibby/Jones in the middle, Tan/Cowles in the back row. Question will be, who will play all the way around? Fun to see the ladies in action again. I hope the male fans, whoever they were, will keep their enthusiasm for the fall season! Lots of energy from them; definitely added something to a spring outing. Interesting that neither Mary W. or her assistant coach were on the sidelines for their last match of the day. Wonder where they were. Lots of energy? Maybe. Definitely lots of alcohol fumes.

Thank you for the reports.... Christine Tan is another state of Florida homegirl that Mary let get away. Same incoming class as Cusack, and neither one was a huge factor in the tournament game last year. Look for the the component that has been consistent in the years since the last Gators Final Four appearance.

What component would that be, FloridaPerson?

Only the one that touches the ball the most.

So, because it's too quiet on these boards, and I'm bored at work, here is my starting line-up for the Gophers next year. (Not necessarily at the beginning of the year, but by the time the Big 10 season starts):
Roehrig/Jones/Hartmann Dieter/Gibb/Vatterodt
Tan -- Libero for the middles. Dieter & Vatterodt play all-the-way around. Cowles is DS for Roehrig.
Hagerty will play OH if Vatterodt struggles.
WHY I LIKE THIS LINEUP: It puts the best talent on the floor, and it gives the frosh some great experience, which will make '08 even more successful. Also, Kyla can hit RS a few rotations, and Dieter can hit LS a few rotations.
Gophers are going to be good.

Snickers, I think you may have nailed the line-up...couldn't agree with you more. Also with Brooke and Kyla in the front row together you can adjust the blocking schemes as well by putting Kyla on the right to shut down a big hitter or keep her on the left to shut down a big Opp or slide attack from the MB.

Not sure BD will be ready for the front row her freshman year, but we shall see. The other thing to think about is who is your better slide hitter, assuming LG is a starter. You might want her as the M1 rather than Jones and let Jones do what she does best: hit in front of the setter.

Is it unheard of to have your M2 run slides? I think Jess Byrnes ran a lot of them out of the M2 position. But a good point. Having your M1 run slides gives you more options. Jones is working on it, but I don't know how strong it will ever be.
My hope is that BD is good enough to play front row, if not, I think she is good enough to play backrow for Hagerty -- making that RS cover much better. And I think Mike is the type that will make these frosh earn these spots, not just put them there because they have the most potential.
I love this game. And our team. And our recruits for '08 and '09.

The problem with the M2 running slides is that there's an opposite standing there for 2 rotations, that's all. It can be done. It just means you have crossing patterns or other combinations.

www.gophersports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=8400&ATCLID=857779Minnesota Volleyball Wins Five of Seven Games From Iowa State in Spring Matchup Courtesy: University of Minnesota Release: 04/06/2007 Courtesy: University of Minnesota Minnesota Volleyball Wins Five of Seven Games From Iowa State in Spring Matchup The Minnesota volleyball team defeated Iowa State in five of the seven games it played in a spring matchup at the Sports Pavilion on Saturday, Apr. 7. Minnesota won one of the three games it played against the Cyclones in the morning session, as the Golden Gophers won game one 30-26 before dropping the next two games 30-20 and 30-27. In the afternoon session, the Golden Gophers won all four games against Iowa State 30-28, 30-28, 30-23 and 30-16. Last week, Minnesota won six of the eight games it played. Dating back to that tournament, the Golden Gophers have won 11 of the 15 games they have played in this spring session. “We struggled a little bit in the morning session, but I thought we rebounded to play some of our best volleyball of the spring in the afternoon session,” said Minnesota Head Coach Mike Hebert. “Rachel Hartmann continues to improve at a rapid rate at the setter position and Kyla Roehrig has continued to assert herself as a dominant left-side hitter this spring.”
