Not sure just yet. Yes Ailes is very aggresive on defense and passes nails in club and high school. But so did Fishburn. Lets just see how she adapts, either one could come in the backrow if Klineman struggles on defense.

I take that list as an indication of college potential and success and I think Ailes will do a much better job of adjusting to the collegiate level. There is no way that Klineman is coming out of the back row. Her offense is just too valuable. She'll take her lumps for sure... but she ain't coming out of the back row for Fishburn to come in.

I agree; that's why I think there are three players vying for two spots: the libero and one DS for the RS if it is Waller. They aren't going to take Alix out of the back row unless she really struggles, and at her level those struggles, if they occur, will be temporary. IMHO day in and day out, Fishburn, Ailes, and Lichtman are going to compete for the two spots, at least next year.

Wow. She's that stubborn? What if John hires a couple of bouncers to drag her out of the back row? It's not like she has a stanchion to wrap herself around back there. I suppose she could wrap herself around Barboza. Poor John would be forced into the double sub.

Janet did run middle in the spring scrimmage against Pacific. I can see Lichtman playing backrow next year for the RS. She can take the second ball if need be and can hit from there as well. She is a very solid defender. Back in 2004, Coach Dunning found a way to get two setters on the court without losing Kehoe's transition defense. I expect he'll find something similar this fall to get Lichtman some regular playing time. If Murphy signs and Ailes is ready to be a primary passer, perhaps Stanford would switch to a 6-2 for 2008 or 2009.

If the bouncers aren't too busy Labor Day weekend, Coach Dunning might send them up into the Pavilion stands to sub in Cliff Hayoshi (every opposing server's favorite Stanford fan) for you, Ruffda. Perhaps you should sit by a stanchion...

At the Stanford-Santa Clara match, Fihsburn passed and dug well. Of course, the balls were going straight towards her. She almost didn't have "Fishburn" moments aka diving to the floor when it is not necessary except for one.
Barboza came in late with Heather Hernandez and Coby Shoji maybe because the 2 were still in class and the 3 decided to carpool to Santa Clara. Barboza and Okogbaa (who was there at the start) didn't play. They had Waller and Fisher hitting outside, Foluke either played MB or RS, Girard at MB, Evans and Kehoe at setter. Kehoe would sometimes play RS and had 2 or 3 kills late in game 4 to help Stanford win the game. Foluke hit a slide that went down just in front of Walters (SC libero) who was just behind the 10 foot line. It was good thing the ball missed her otherwise she would have been knocked out! 2 playes later, same thing happened: big bang slide! Waller and Fisher were both effective on the left-side with Waller also a force on the pipe attack. Both passed well. Seems like Fisher hesitated in diving for the ball. As the matched progressed, Evans connected better with her hitters. Stanford won all 4 games.
Santa Clara had Sevastopoulus and Evans playing left side. Clark and #14 playing middle. Luxton, Barnes and Walter were passing all the time. The hitter stayed out of the passing rotation. Matich covered the cour really well. Unfortunately, she didn't have consistent attackers to set the ball to.
Sakibomb25, answer this: Why were Cmaylo and Dowd not playing? Also, why was Lowe not there? And Muratore's dad was there, what gives? Hasn't he learned his lesson from his daughters' experience there?

Fishburn was #93 It doesn't matter if she Fishburn was #1....the fact is she has stunk up the court as a libero for Stanford. She belongs on the bench....hopfully Ailes will be given the chance to take charge and be a true libero.

Come on now. She isn't the best or worst libero out there. Yes, she had some bad matches, but she also had some spectacular ones as well. She is still learning the position. But you are right. I really hope Ailes can transition well. If she is anything like her sister, and her parents say she is better, then she will be a bombshell.

Overly harsh, dishdaball. I watched Fishburn play in high school and she was a very good and quick defensive player, and also an all-around volleyball person. She had some good moments last year, but at this level, you just have to be more consistent, and have a better read on where the ball is going to go. I agree that a couple of the incoming girls are probably going to be better in that back row, or maybe Fishburn will get fired up and earn her right to stay in that position. Anyway, I did not see a better option that Stanford had last year and Fishburn gave it what she had.

Agreed - there may not have been a better option which makes my point. For the first time they have a true legit libero coming in - one that was highly recruited and is coming to the farm as a walk on! It's about tme Stanford placed some emphasis on this position. It could very well be the difference maker in some matches.....

Fishburn is not a horrible libero. Her defense is quite strong but her ability to pass the ball is well below that of Barboza and Richards. She makes for an obvious target on serve receive. It's just surprising that Stanford would wait this long to bring in a top level libero. How many years have we been complaining about Fishburn and Schultz?
