It doesn't matter what offense they run. They've got Pavan, Houghtelling, Larson, and Stalls, with Holloway feeding them the ball. Next question. Wolfie, missing a player dude.....unless you are talking BB. ESTRELLA

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck to Chuck Wood if a woodchuck would chuck wood to Chuck Wood?

Ok, If Pavan, larson, houghtellling and Holloway are on the court at all times that leaves u with stalls and licht rotating out. look at the back row. you have a libero and the rest hitters. So who is going to dig the balls, the libero cant do all the work, and i know larson is a great defensive player but pavan isnt so great do to the fact that she is 6'5 but she needs to go to the back because of her hitting ability. who knows how houghtelling is gioing to be in the back and holloway shouldnt dig the ball because she is the setter. One of the reasons NU was so good last year was that they had a scrappy defense. this year they will have a hell of a block but not a good back row. Will one of those great players have to sacrifice and sit on the bench and have a DS go in for them? They have too many great offensive players that should be on the court, but defense wins championshiops!

Brentmoritz, I think I agree with where you're going, but not with all of the details along the way. For example, it's Stalls and the other MB who would rotate out, not Licht. Houghtelling should be respectable on defense. In 2005 she had 2.49 digs/game -- not at the level of Jen Saleamua, but third best on the team and comparable to what Schwartz and Holloway had in 2006. She'll do fine in the back row. But not as well as a real DS or libero. In a 5-1 with the libero coming in for an MB, the best defensive player on the team would always be on the court. That's where that "scrappy defense" comes from, and I agree that's what made them champions last year. By contrast, in a 6-2 with the setters coming in for the MBs and the libero sitting out three or more rotations, the best back row player on the court could at times be... the setter? Not the best way to score points in transition.

There is a definitive answer, 5-1 Holloway. Beibei, can't find the article where Licht was guaranteed immediate playing time, because it doesn't exist. BeiBei is correct. I remember reading the article as well and scratching my head. www.rockymountainnews.com//drmn/sports_columnists/article/0,1299,DRMN_83_4334489,00.html The article states: Once the college recruiting season opened for junior volleyball players, we told you about Lindsey Licht of Grandview. As one of the most heavily recruited players in state history, the 6-foot-4 Licht quickly had a collection of letters from coaches that reached her waist. One trip to Nebraska was all it took for her to make up her mind. Once the Cornhuskers offered her a full-ride scholarship and a guarantee she would start as a freshman, she gave them an instant verbal commitment. So, what about the letters? She says she will not throw them away. "I think I'll keep them as souvenirs," Licht said.

Ok, assuming the libero went in Licht, depending on the lineup, she could also play two rotations for Houghtelling.
But the libero has to be better than both of those players defensively to make this worth while.

So just for fun I did a search on Licht on the DRMN page - nothing like this comes up. A little more help, please.

Hey, thanks for digging this up although it is true that the link does not work cos the article was old but at least I do not look like I am trying to stir trouble. Maybe the promise was make before the Houghtelling redshirt situation.

A "guarantee she would start as a freshman" would be a pretty bold promise to any recruit from any coach.
I think we need a bit more documentation of this guarantee before putting any stock in the idea that it ever happened.
