Schwartz did encourage Mueller on the court but would not take BOTH of her hands out of her jacket to high five her. That bugged me.
Gates usually attacks well but struggles closing the block. Texas match will be intense, however I feel Nebraska will prevail given HCA and our better ball handling skills at this point.

In all the matches I've ever seen Gates blocks really well but struggles attacking. I always thought her and Cooper were different because Cooper was a better attacker, but weaker blocker.

For all games so far, all 3 MBs have about the same block/game: Stalls 1.05, Cooper 0.95 and Gates 1.00. Stalls has played in all 22 games, Cooper 19 of them and Gates only 5 games.
Hitting is an entirely different story: Stalls .500 (1st), Cooper .322 (3rd) and Gates .053 (9th).
Like I said above, I think Cook is hedging his bet on MB3.
Somewhat back on thread topic, Banwarth has pretty much all zero stats and of course with no PT, Delano has no stats. But we don't know what Cook and the other coaches are seeing in practice for those two.

I predict that Delano will pass Gates by. The girl from Texas coming in next year is very very athletic. Could be quite a battle.

I was afraid of that. I think it's McNeal. I read about her a while back. Would that be Allison McNeal (6'3" MB) from Schulenburg, Texas who's on the National Youth Training Team? I found this from Google, couldn't find a NU commitment or connection mentioned.

I see it ALL THE TIME in ALL benches. It doesn't bug me. We can't expect all our girls to be like the North Carolina men's basketball team.

Yes unfortunately. She's not not seen action since game 3 second match at PSU.

This is a good time to sit her. Texas probably wouldn't win in Lincoln even if she were at 300%, much less 70%. Let her rest, subtly blame the loss on her absence, and give yourselves a chance at winning the rematch in Austin.

I think this is an important match for Texas. I know they have thoughts of being a contender, and must have some doubts after PSU. I see talk of improved chemistry, and ball control, by some TX fans. How much if any does that have to do with Horns being in a 5-1 with Moriarity? I heard they have Faucette and Hooker playing all the way around, how does that help ball control?

Huskerfan, I also know Kayla very well, so if there is anything you want to know about her, just let me know.
I did talk to her after the match and she was very disappointed that she didn't get the start, understandably so. I guess that indicates a little bit about how bad she wants to be on the court, which as a Husker fan is good news. She has been told numerous times by the coaching staff that she is "right there" with Rachel and they would like to give her a chance. And then, pretty much out of the blue they pass her and go to Tara. With no mention as to why and with Tara not having even practiced the position. I assume that even though she is "right there" with Rachel, they still don't have the confidence in her, which is fine if that's the case, but Kayla only found out about it, right before the match. So yeah, Saturday was tough on her, but she will bounce back. I know (hope) the Husker Fans will allow her that one night of disappointment. She's not going away, I can promise you that.
As for her demeanor, she is a very serious volleyball player. But she does get excited. However, outstanding plays that may excite you and me, like an Ace Serve or pancake save are just ordinary plays for her. Now a well timed Stalls stuff block or a kill off the opposing blocker's head out of bounds, will get her fired up. If you get the chance to watch her again, you'll see.
As for her experience. She has played OH/S all her life. Her final two years of club (junior and senior) were the only two years she had any experience as libero. She strictly played libero last club season with the exception of the Northern Lights Tournament in which she set half of a 6-2, on the team that won the 18 club division.
She has no international experience at this time, and of course Tara does, playing with the Junior National team both this summer and last summer (until she got hurt) as libero. However, in their experience playing strictly libero, all I can is that Kayla has played strictly libero since her high school career was over, with of course the one exception.
