Has anyone heard news of Kanoe Kamanao playing professionally? The national Freshman of the Year and four-time All-American, KK certainly has the talent to take her game to the next level.

She had some good offers, but has declined so far. She's still recovering from her chronic leg problems. Maybe in January or next season. From what I understand nothing is in stone at this point.

Thanks Murina. I'm curious, if it's not sensitive information, could you tell us which offers KK has declined. For some reason, however true or not, we tend to look at All Americans' post-college career as a way to almost validate their talent. For KK, we just hope she does well playing professionally. I know Robin Ah Mow has spoken highly of KK in the past and said that KK can go as far as she wants to. Murina, having seen a lot of international volleyball, how would you assess KK playing at that level?

I've always been a big Kamana'o fan. I think she can play at an extremely high level eventually. I would guess that a Spanish, French or German first division team would be a good starting point. She has some things to improve before going to Italy, Turkey, Russia or a top European Cup type team. I don't see any reason she couldn't eventually make it to that level though.

Do you think the US team is in good hands with Ah Mow and Berg? Or do you think there's another American setter that should step in now or anytime soon? Hawaii fans would love to see another Hawaii setter, maybe Kamanao, in the future after she has gotten several years playing international.

It would be best for Kamana'o to get a few years playing professionally under her belt. There are no setters currently in or recently graduated from college who are better than Ah Mow-Santos and Berg. They are both pretty good. That being said, USA has several setters who could eventually do fairly well. Thompson, for all her physical flaws, has the intangibles that sometimes over come physical flaws. I haven't seen Spicer in a while, but everything I hear and read is fantastic. I like McGinnis very much, but she may not be the type of setter the USA can use. She is better than most with a team that passes well consistently, but I don't think I want to see her trying to chase balls all over the gym as USA setters often find themselves doing. She might have a really great professional career, but not be the right fit for USA... I think the USA needs a setter with significantly more agility than the average.

With OHs the US has, the setter need to be super-fit to chase down those "passes".

Murina, correct me if I'm wrong, aside from Ah Mow-Santos and Berg, I don't think there are American setters playing in top international teams.

Murina, I'm about to leave the office, but I just wanted to know one last thing: "What's Lily Kahumoku doing professionally?" Last I heard, she was playing in Italy. Hopefully, I can read about it tomorrow. I appreciate all your insight. Bye.

You are correct about Ah Mow-Santos and Berg.
I don't know what Kahumoku is doing this year. She was with Altamura last year, didn't play much.

I think I read somewhere that she (Lily Kahumoku) was going to play in Korea next season.

Lily plans to play in Korea. She is moving on from the Italian league and has recently married.

The last time I talked to Lily, been a few weeks now, she wasn't going to go to Korea and was visiting her new husband's family in Europe. She is still entertaining offers, I believe.

What happened to the Korea deal? She seemed like she really wanted to play there.
