www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/10/04/sports/EU-SPT-VOL-Doping-Carvalho.phpBrazil volleyball player Jacqueline Carvalho risks nine-month ban for doping The Associated PressPublished: October 4, 2007 ROME: Anti-doping prosecutors for the Italian Olympic Committee on Thursday asked a disciplinary panel to ban Brazil volleyball player Jacqueline Carvalho for nine months for doping. Carvalho — who plays for Italy's Monteschiavo Banca Marche Jesi and therefore comes under Italian jurisdiction — tested positive for the stimulant sibutramine at a Serie A1 playoff match against Despar Perugia on June 10, CONI said. At the time, Carvalho said she probably ingested the substance, which is often used in weight-reduction medicine, after drinking a cup of tea. Carvalho was dropped from Brazil's squad for the Pan American Games on July 12. Brazil lost 3-2 to Cuba in the Pan Ams final, seven days later.

It's a sad sad world when a hard working young woman can't even take a spot of tea without some nefarious evildoer secretly slipping Performance Enhancing Substances into it completely without her knowledge!
If only we allowed prayer in schools none of this would be happening.

Woman is my major crush in volleyball (heartbroken when she married some Brazilian nobody volleyball player recently). Fell in love at Montreux in 2005, when she got hurt during tournament, had to miss the final v. China, then started crying when Brazil won. Wasn't sure if she was happy they won, or sad she had to sit. I believe her tea story intrinsically and curse any group that would want to suspend my heroine. Free Carvalho! Free Carvalho!

She's an emotional player too. Saw her crying once after getting yanked by the coach.

This photo is from last November vs. China where she had 20-kills. She definitely plays all out. I believe her too.

^ ^ ^
She could really use some work on her quads. Kinda flabby.
She must've attended the Barry Bonds school of denial.

Cruncher, your brain is flabby. Her quads need no work, and neither does her physique need artificial stimulants. I'm starting a Defense Fund.

Uh, it was a joke. Clearly from the photo she is chiseled like a granite statue.

She's not flabby at all. She strikes me as very slim, kinda like Duggins but taller. Her slight frame kinda emphasizes her assets.

FYI:
Brazil volleyball player banned for three months after positive drug test 9 hours ago
ROME - Brazilian volleyball player Jacqueline Carvalho was suspended for three months Friday by the Italian Olympic Committee after testing positive for the banned stimulant.
However, Carvalho can return to play immediately having already served the sanction, CONI said in a statement.
Anti-doping prosecutors asked Carvalho be banned for nine months following her failed test at a Serie A1 playoff match in June. She had played for Monteschiavo Banca Marche Jesi and came under Italian jurisdiction. Carvalho now plays for Spanish team Murcia.
Carvalho had said she probably ingested sibutramine, which is often used in weight-reduction medicine, after drinking a cup of tea. She was dropped from Brazil's squad for the Pan American Games on July 12. Brazil lost 3-2 to Cuba in the final.

That's BS. What kind of penalty is that? She still gets to play in the Olympics.
I would guess they still pray in Brazil's schools, so that has nothing to do with it.

Clearly my $.25 worth helped the Defense Fund; sounds like she got off with time served. Since there was no additional penalty undoubtedly she refrained from contesting the matter further to save the volleyball community from infamy. Not only talented and beautiful, my heroine (note the e, scoundrels) also is principled. Sigh. Anyone ever heard rumors of steroids in the volleyball community? Uppers?
