BYU has never been known for getting huge recruits. McGown took average to above average players and made them great. I have yet to see if Peterson can do the same b/c he has played with mostly McGown's recruits.

I just read on the women's side that both men's and women's AD were ousted today. How will that affect BYU vb?

This might effect the womens program a bit because Michaelis was the womans AD and also former womens coach. As for the mens program? it won't hurt a thing. Val Hale did nothing to help the mens program.

I have yet to see if Peterson can do the same b/c he has played with mostly McGown's recruits. rightly said. if you ask me, carl mcgown should also be presented with a championship ring because Carlos, Alleman, Pessoa, and Olmstead were all guys recruited and largely developed by him. it will be interesting to see what happens to the BYU teams in the years to come--definitely a test of time. also, keep in mind you can't really attribute hardly any of Victor Batista's talent to Peterson--he started within a week of setting foot on American soil and shined the entire season. it does not take international talent to win. i believe the cougars could contend for another national championship this year even without batista or carlos (don't get me wrong, they are great players and have done great things for the team). russell holmes (6'8'' athletic MB with long arms) is back after a full redshirt year of getting into playing shape and Rob Neilson (as athletic as they come) could have started at all except maybe two or three division 1 schools last year. insert those two guys into the lineup and you have an all-american team that has a legitimate chance to repeat.

I would agree whole heartedly with the McGown assesment. He is undoubtedly one of the sharpest volleyball minds in the country. He isn't Mr. Personality, but volleyball is his thing and he does it well. It's not a knock on Peterson, but I think Peterson is an excellent coach. One who kept everything together for BYU this year. Sure they had talent, but you don't win close to 20 matches in a row because of sheer talent.
As far as the Neilsen comment goes, I agree. Remember he started at Ohio State last year when Carlos was benched and he was exceptional. Not a very big guy, but very athletic and smart.

Matter of fact, I'd say Millar is one of the two best MBs to come out of college in the last 10 years (Keenan being the other). Jellybean (Hector Lebron) was also a great talent, even though he looked more like a busboy than a volleyball player. Great hops, too. Hinds was a great talent as well, before he blew his knee out. As for Peterson, have people forgotten how great a job he did at Penn St.? I mean, come on, he beat a UCLA team in '94 that NOBODY thought they had a chance in hell of beating.

I think Peterson is a great judge of talent and a good recruiter. As for him being able to develop athletes? That is suspect, and we'll have to see.
