Was reading through an expat site about the age thing and someone brought up the different calendar system. The poster said under the Chinese calendar s/he is 2 yrs older than the "norm". I'm sure the IOC already have taken this into consideration. THAT would be pulling out all the stops. The Chinese government disavowed the lunar calendar in 1949, because they said a lunar calendar is the vestiges of a backwards feudal system. So for them to go back to that would be really talking out of both sides of their mouths, then again, its not news. Another thing is that the Chinese celebrates the count the first birthday when they are 3 months old, i.e. they cont the nine months in the womb.

^But its ironic Lunar New Year (aka Chinese New Years for those who don't know) is still celebrated if they truly moved away from the Lunar calendar.

No more ironic than the Western world celebrating Easter, which is also calculated according to a lunar calendar. Here's the definition of Easter Sunday from Wikipedia: "Easter Sunday is the Sunday following the Paschal Full Moon date. The Paschal Full Moon date is the Ecclesiastical Full Moon date following 20 March and for the years 1900 to 2199 AD can be found in this table..."

I don't think it's going to get any better with London hosting the Olympic Games in 2012. Even the cast of the West End's "Mamma Mia!" lip-syncs! Notice how everybody is trying hard not to laugh when they get caught.

Considering most of the other ads I've seen here for the last eight days have been for Chinese mail-order brides, I can handle a little Miley Cyrus for a change. Given the theme of this thread, I'd be afraid to order one of the pictured mail order brides and then get the same bait-n-switch job they pulled at the Olympics. I say boycott the mail-order Chinese brides. And what I've learned from this thread is the following: 1) Pat Nixon was a great singer who sang in every movie made from 1948 to 1993 2) Too much watching of Sound of Music causes brain damage 3) There is at least one person who wanted Jessica Simpson to sing live at the Superbowl. 4) azvb is a big fan of former First Lady Pat Nixon, but I’m not sure how he feels about Patty Hearst 5) China's governing theory guides the American music industry 6) Milli and Vanilli are actually 7-year old Chinese girls, unless you use the Lunar calandar in which case they become 16 and eligible for the gymnastics team Did I get it all?
