Watched the trampoline finals last night. I was shocked to hear them say, "She was the gold medalist in the 2000 Olympics." Had no idea it was in this Olympics much less the last two. One question- where on earth do they practice? You'd need a really high ceiling because they are flying. I was impressed. I'm predicting many trampoline injuries in backyards all over America this week, along with some spirited Ping Pong games.
This probably belongs on the Off the Net thread - sorry.

They need trampoline volleyball! LOL Now that would be fun. I don't know the name of the game they play on trampolines with like 4 sections and they try to stuff it through a hole-not a good description-my son calls it trampoline basketball.

If the ceiling is too low, they catch on pretty quickly.

Did you know that your homeowner's insurance rate goes UP if you have a trampoline in your backyard?

When I first heard they(IOC) was going to allow trampoline as an Olympic sports at the Sydney games my reaction like many others was like, 'what? !'. I know there are volleytalk fans that like other sports such as rhythmic gymnastics and synchronized swimming - which aren't easy to do and if I had my way take them out of the Olympics games, but I wonder should trampoline, rhythmic gymanastics(this sport is soooo gay...oh go ahead and attack me if you're offended that I just said gay...even my gay friends say that too and they're not fans of the sport), synchronized swimming and trampoline be in the Olympics? In another thread I mentioned about BMX...I betcha that sport will be in and really catch on unlike softball and baseball.

I was watching The Oxygen Channel last night because they were suppose to have some extra gymnastics coverage. They had something called "dressage". The only way I can describe it is horses doing their gaits to music. No jumping, no racing, pretty much horses dancing. One lady had spent $80,000 to have a song composed just for her horse to step, trot, grapevine, to. They awarded medals for this. What's next, dogs catching frisbees? The whole equestrian thing doesn't belong in the Olympics, IMHO.

Equestrian is only there as a concession to the noble classes whose namby pamby members would break their little pink wrists in any of the working class sports. It's like a participation ribbon the color of MONEY. Having animals in the olympics is stupid. This should be about humans stretching their limits. If we can use horses to compete, why not horse hormones in our athletes?

"Horse-Human" sports are classic and predate most sports. They speak to an age where horses and humans were pretty much symbiotic, though I agree we should ditch dressage.
I agree with the ridiculous round-the-clock coverage of boxing. The US has only one boxer left who has a chance to medal and he probably won't. I can't believe the ratings are any good, the sport is just no longer popular in our country at all.
If they're going to show sports where American's aren't that good, then show us more table-tennis and badminton. Those sports are great TV.
