Ok - Got lucky with the Italy prediction......feeling good right now and I'll roll the dice.
USA Women play their best match on the tourney and beat Cuba 3-0. 8 out of 10 times they would probably lose but on this day it all clicks and Berg sets those middies.....we get really physical play from our pins.
Davis feeds off this positive feeling and continues to grow and mature in this game.
Thats my call.

Ok - Got lucky with the Italy prediction...... No - your crystal ball was just working darn good. I think it will be 2-0 (3-0) because the Cubans will walk off the court after the second set so beat up and bloody they can't continue!! OK - It will be 3-1 USA a very hard and exciting Match!!

In the "Women's Quarterfinals" thread I predicted a 3-2 USA victory over Italy. You may now all approach the royal throne and kiss the ring. Thank you.
Of course, I also predicted Russia would pull out a miracle 3-2 win against China, and we see how that turned out. I thought Russia would then take a set from Brazil because sheer boredom would make ze'Roberto play Sheilla as a libero, Fabiana as a DS, Mari as a setter, Paula and Fofao as the middle blockers, and Valeskinha and Fabi as OH1 and OH2...
Quarterfinals MATCH1: Brazil 3 - 0 Japan MATCH2: China 2 - 3 Russia MATCH3: Italy 2 - 3 USA MATCH4: Cuba 3 - 1 Serbia
Semifinals MATCH5: Brazil 3 - 1 Russia MATCH6: Cuba 2 - USA 3 (but Cuba scores more total points)
Medal Round MATCH7: Brazil 3 - 0 USA MATCH8: Cuba 3 - 2 Russia
Results GOLD = Brazil SILVER = USA BRONZE = Cuba

I think the Brazil/China match could be very close. China's play picked up and was evident today against Russia and they will probably up the level of play considering it's medal round and they will have the home court cheering them on. Serving and blocking will be key for Brazil, and the play of Mari will be critical. I'm going to say this match goes 5 win Brazil hanging on for the win. I have to think about the Cuba-US match before I make my prediction.

Normally I would say that China's defense and fast attack would make it a close match, but China has been slower recently and their normal transition attack hasn't seemed as blitzkrieg. When you look at position by position, OH, MB, S, L, OPP, overall defense, I don't see anywhere China comes out ahead. The outsides for both teams will of course be heavily relied upon for out of system kills and have proven they can do it, but the biggest difference is in the middle.
Setter: Fofao > Feng (close at times, but not in this tournament) OH: Brazil >> China (Wang is too young to carry the team by herself, Yang is too worn out, Zhou takes a lot of swings but hasn't seemed as effective) L: Brazil = China (you can argue this either way, but I don't see a huge difference) MB: Brazil >>>> China (not a contest. Brazil seals blocks well and is devastating on attacks immediately behind the setter)

Cuba- gold as usual, Brazil-Silver, China Bronze- USA- 4th wondering why China played so hard. USA will lose 3-1 and Brazil will lose 3-2. We can only hope my crystal ball is broken though!!

USA 3 Cuba 2 Brazil 3 China 0 Maybe wishful thinking. There seems to be 2 USA teams here, one that shows up and plays well and one that doesn't. I'm hoping the USA brings its 'A' game. I think they're playing well right now. Win over Italy + JPL coaching + veteran players + revenge = win over Cuba!!!

I'm kinda hoping Brazil and Cuba will face each other again in the Gold Medal match, and we get some kinda MMA match after the volleyball match, like we did in Atlanta in 1996.

My crystal ball seems to be working pretty damn good so far! Only one big mistake out of all the elimination rounds. I may have to give it another look to see what's in the stars for the Gold Medal match, maybe that 3-0 loss to Brazil was the result of a smudge on the glass!! ;D

Well, who on earth would've imagined Cuba would've been SO easy? Still stunned by that.
