A lot of talk has centered around the foreign volleyball players that grace the college ranks. But homegrown USA talent has done REALLY well these olympics games. The Americans already took both mens and womens beach volleyball, and both mens and women's indoor teams are playing for golds. Has the US volleyball field ever been this deep in all events?
GO USA!.....The Chinese can have their weightlifting and synchronized diving gold medals.... we'll take the volleyball championships ANYDAY!

I know you jus didn't give away the winner of the men's semi between Russia and the USA because it hasn't played here in the islands yet!

USA USA USA USA! etc. I've seen these guys play better in these olympics than I've ever seen them before. It's so cool to watch, and it really makes the other guys in practice play that much harder and more excitedly. GO TEAM

Rogero said "Only if USA Volleyball can capitalize on all the medals." Two golds and two silvers minimum. USA is the best in the world....period!

Rogero said "Only if USA Volleyball can capitalize on all the medals." Two golds and two silvers minimum. USA is the best in the world....period! I think he means "Only if USAV can capitalize by marketing and developing volleyball in this country past a third-tier party game played by sober church youth groups and drunken frat brothers". You could say "right now USA teams are the best in the world", but USA is not the best volleyball nation in the world -- probably not even in the top 10.

Team USA has won or will play for Gold medals. Just because this country is fixated on sports like Football and Baseball doesn't mean a thing. We have the players to take us to the top. Being consistent and staying focused has always been our problem, but alas, we came through. Are we the top beach volleyball country?

Ah, but it does matter. We want pro leagues here -- and we want better coverage on TV. This will help. It won't accomplish it, but it will help.

Interesting fact on the mens' beach side, 3 of the 4 players did not play varsity college volleyball. Todd is the only one.

Over says "but USA is not the best volleyball nation in the world -- probably not even in the top 10." What? ?? You just literally said that our teams are the best in the world but, we are not the best volleyball nation in the world? Maybe we are measuring it differently but, the Olympics is the pinnacle of our sport and we are playing for the gold medal in every event our sport has to offer, with two golds already won. USA Volleyball is the best in the world period.

What excites me the most about this games is that I think there will definitely be a renewed faith in USA volleyball and in the minds of budding volleyball players around the country. It has been so long that the USA indoor teams have even advanced to the medal round that I think for many athletes an Olympic medal used to be a farfetched dream. People around the country, particularly those already immersed in the volleyball community, have seen the American teams not only compete as far as volleyball skill and athleticism is concerned, but pull out high pressure situation wins. The Olympic medal dream is now a more tangible possibility and reality for the USA program and that should attract more of the top athletes to the program.
