This was my 8th Olympics for one. And Bob Costas said at some point that the American men haven't gotten a gold in 20 years. At that point I was like, Jesus Bob you're an idiot, they got gold in 1988. And then it hit me, 1988 was 20 year ago. Having a senior moment.

LOL
Yeah, I blame Karch. He still looks like he's in his 20's. In fact, I believe that if Karch and Heather Locklear (who is also aging pretty well) procreated, their progeny would live to be 700 years old.

They are getting looking young lessons from Dick Clark. But I think someone took away the Portrait of Dick Clark though.

Heather Locklear had so much work done on her face, she doesn't look young, she just looks like someone who's had a lot of work done on her face. She freaks me out.

Are you sure your TV is working correctly or maybe you havent seen him in person lately? Karch has scaly wrinkled skin that underlines that he'sbeen having a few battles with Father Time

Oh yeah, I still remember Scott Fortune's kill on the overpass for the final point in Seoul like it was yesterday.

I don't remember Scott Fortune's kill, but I sure as hell remember being pissed off at Bob Samuelson for killing the chances of winning gold in 1992. It didn't help that Brian Ivey was cramping/knee locked up on the sideline.

I remember "Volleybald" too. Samuelson, Fortune, "Poison" Ivey, knew them all. Samuelson was one cocky player, and I agree with the FIVB decision to forfeit the match against Japan, although the ref screwed up. But it fired up the team to win the bronze.

The team decision to shave their heads? Great team move, bad aesthetic move. Fortune looked like a dork.

I do have the same TV I had in 1988, so you think thats part of it? Yeah, nothing like tossing the tape in the betamax player and watching those games from 1988 like they were yesterday. And who cares what these young whipper-snappers think, Heather Locklear is pretty damn hot for pushing 50.

Back to the original topic, I had the identical reaction when Bob Costas said this was their first men's volleyball gold medal in 20 years. My first thought was, has it really been that long?!!!

I know the feeling. This is my 12th Olympics. I was in Jr High when I saw the Sports Illustrated Olympic preview and was hooked. No vb then, but I recall Ray Norton (US sprinter) & John Thomas (US high jumper) being upset by Russians and thinking that it must not be fair. Donna de Varona was my age, and I recall thinking how great it must to be an Olympian at age 13.
Talk about everything being inter-related. 10 days ago, I was in Calif for my wifes HS reunion, at the Long Beach Hyatt, where the 1984 victory party was held. Having coached Tayyiba at Saddleback, and know Sue Woodstra since she started in 1973, this was an amazing span for USA volleyball.
With so many athletes playing now, the US has the resources to be a continuous world power.
What a great accomplishment for all of the USA volleyball athletes, especially Danielle Scott whose dedication through 4 olympics paid off with a silver medal.
They all made us proud these past 2 weeks.
