I think the sacrifices the Kennedys have made for this country far outweigh any of their transgressions. Boy, this is a pretty strong statement for even a dimwit liberal commie pinko like yourself, Ruffda. Shall I forward this to the family of Mary Jo Kopechne? You can leave a women to drown to death, go back to your hotel, take a shower, and call your handlers only concerned if it will affect your political career. If you are wealthy, famous, and powerful, all is quickly forgiven. Kennedy accomplished a great deal in politics. In my book, it does not make up for the transgression.

And who the bleep specified TED KENNEDY?? You're telling me Ted's accident -- about which neither of you, nor I, know the truth, but that's another matter -- wipes out everything the rest of the family has ever done, including losing two sons, who were serving their country, to assassins?
I guess I don't know how to respond to this...

Well then, doofus, next time you put some dumb sweeping comment up there about a whole family, please preface it by saying..."Well, except for the one stupid brother that they had..." It will save you from getting beat up on the board. Thanks. Shall we move on to the next argument? How about Joe Kennedy and his bootlegging fortune amassed during the Prohibition?

Oh yeah, and change "any transgressions" to "well...almost all of their transgressions..." if you don't want us to jump all over your shiiiiitz.

Shall we move on to the next argument? How about Joe Kennedy and his bootlegging fortune amassed during the Prohibition? One really nice thing about Obama is that he is not a Bush or a Kennedy. There's no question about where his family fortune came from, because he basically didn't have one. His grandmother was a bank VP, but that's small potatoes compared to most Senators.

I guess I don't know how to respond to this... No, it doesn't wipe it out. Morally, ethically, politically, they are two separate situations and each must be evaluated on its own (de)merits. The person who cut you off and flipped you off in traffic yesterday probably would have held the door open for you if you both were walking into a building at the same time. When it comes to morality, each of us is capable of such great heights as human beings, and also capable of the worst inhumanity. There's a reason nearly all the greatest works of literature are tragedies.

That being said, if I were transported back to 1968 I would most likely have voted for Bobby. He was killed by special interests who didn't want to give up their power just when they were so close to the tipping point of being unstoppable.
And now they are.

I would like to clarify something I posted. I was only responding to the comment about Mary Jo Kopechne and one particular Kennedy which I feel strongly about. I was not talking about the rest of the Kennedy clan. I would have to give some thought and do some research about all the Kennedy's before commenting.
Needless to say John Kennedy was a great President, one of the greatest. I do not want to take anything away from his accomplishments.
I am sorry if there was any confusion about my post.

SoBB, Joe Kennedy was no saint. You have me there.
I refer you to the original dumb sweeping comment, however. Thank you.

and JFK wasn't that great...
The Russians thought he was young an stupid..we almost had a nuclear war..he was lucky..to a point.
HIS policies have been studied ... he is not ranked at near the top.

I don't buy that JFK was a great President. I believe he holds a special legacy in US history because of Camelot and because of how tragically he was assassinated. Had he not been assassinated so early in his term, he had quite a few minefields he would have had to evade that ultimately fell to LBJ.
Bobby Kennedy was the true talent in that family.

Lost another son (Joe Jr.) in WW2 in a combat mission. Lost another daughter (Kick) during the war in a plane crash. Lost another daughter in a botched lobotomy operation.

She didn't die, however. Rosemary? I forget.
An awful, ugly story.

She didn't die, however. Rosemary? I forget. An awful, ugly story. She died last year, but was institutionalized in Minn. after the operation failed. Basically her personality was destroyed.
