As we are discussing issues/items for the upcoming year, and many teams will be back on campus in about 10-14 days, do we want to start a new thread for this new year....and move a few of the pertinent items to a new thread or ?

I would like to start this thread out with giving a shout out to Fresno State for being the current (2009) National Champions of club volleyball.

Here are the top D1 finishers at 2009 Nationals. Assuming same teams play in same division, and ignoring who might go where for Nationals , a lot of teams know who is likely to be on their varsity this year returning/moving up...and their strengths and..... who graduated...
Give your top 10 and 11-20 predictions:
1Fresno State 2Oshkosh 3T Lakeland 3T Illinois 5T Cal 5T UCLA 5T Arizona 5T Colorado 9T Boston College 9T Cal Poly 9T Marquette 9T San Diego State 9T Ohio State 9T Navy 9T UW Whitewater 9T Utah Valley 17Davis 18UCSD 19T James Madison 19T Missouri
maybe who is likely to be in top 10, in whatever order and who will more likely be in the 11-20 range add in any who will likely break into the top 20

I am still thinking about my list, but first off I would expect Davis to move back up into the top 10. Top coaching with Joey means they only rarely finish below 10. Always have good players who get better.
Given that UCSD generally has a bunch of good players who don't make their varsity team, I would expect them to move up....as long as final varsity cuts are made before final club rosters are set. Last year...?

It sure is tough to start making preditions at this point. Obviously school is not even in session at this point, but also it remains to be seen what good it will do to discuss rankings, if certain teams won't even be playing at a given national championship.
Maybe it will be good to have guys chime in with who they have back or have lost from their team in the coming months, but until we know who's going where, it seems a lost cause.
Will NCVF bother including teams that won't be able to attend at KY in the rankings? It almost seems similar to a team that takes on ringers during the season for certain tournaments, you can't really use their results or decide how good they are if you don't have the right criteria to compare one to the other.

The top teams may all meet each other at Vegas instead...hmmm..
We start classes in 8 days...and the players are mostly here or will be by Thurs...tryouts just before and just after Labor Day.
If we have to put up with two Nationals, it would be nice to have some comparative rankings from off season and preseason matches between teams who might split attending for Nationals....and I am pretty sure some actual leagues will be split in where their teams attend Nationals.
good question about rankings....if either NIRSA NCVF will include everyone in rankings.
Prepvolleyball does include all in his rankings for junior girls, even though the junior end of season tourneys find top teams in two different tourneys, JOs and JVA and even some strong teams at Festival only.
I NEVER thought we would end up divided like this. Let's hope it doesn't go for very many years.
Perhaps club discussions will revolve more around which team will be rebuilding, reloading, scrambling, or stronger ....for this year, rather than actual rankings...at this point.
Which sorta amounts to; top 10 or 11 to 20...for each division.

There is no division of club volleyball. The ENTIRE leadership of the sport is with the NCVF. The NCVF consists of every known league commissioner in the country. NCVF Nationals are Collegiate Club Nationals and will be crowing the Collegiate Club National Champions. Also, if enough teams are interested, there will be a club alumni division at NCVF Nationals. More info on the website this fall/winter on that. www.ncvfvolleyball.org

The club alumni division sounds really appealing and awesome! I bet that will generate lots of interest. Too bad my school has already mandated our program elsewhere.

I know Marquette would definitely consider the Alumni portion of the tourney. This is great news.

Vegas as uniting tournament? What is the date of that as compared to nationals?

March 19th and 20th 2010 Vegas tourney www.lasvegasopen.infoApr. 1-3 Nationals 10 days prior. Obviously Vegas can't handle the large # of teams who go to Nationals, but it appears to be a place the top D1 teams will at least have a chance to face each other...

From what I have been hearing, most teams that have sided with NIRSA have done so because the directors of their clubs are forcing them to do so. NCVF Teams (so far): ncvfvolleyball.org/TeamEndorsements_View.aspxBrandeis Michigan State Dayton Cincinnati Marquette Virginia Tech Wisconsin Iowa State Connecticut Indiana Iowa Ohio State UW-Oshkosh Ohio Northern Utah Valley Lakeland Southern Illinois Northern Illinois NIRSA Teams (so far): www.nirsa.org/Content/NavigationMenu/Sports/Volleyball/2010_Team_Listing.htm * Baylor University * Binghamton University * Brown University * Ohio University * University of Arizona * University of California, San Diego * University of Colorado * University of Florida * University of Kansas * University of Maryland, Baltimore County * University of North Texas * University of Tennessee * The University of Texas at Austin * University of Texas at San Antonio * University of Washington * Western Illinois University We will see how that list grows...
