Well, in all seriousness, that doesn't necessarily mean the New Testament God, right? And, you will find, for many of the founding fathers, it definitely did *not* mean that God.

So, you don't know for sure they weren't talking about Pete "God" Dinkelman, the butcher? Well, common sense tells me Pete Dinkelman the butcher might have been mentioned in a history book or two if they were chiseling his name into buildings. Here's what I believe: (cue "God Bless America" music") Our forefathers were divinely guided. This country has a divine purpose - freedom to worship being one of it's main purposes. So I believe and have faith that when the word "God" appears on the buildings in Washington DC it is a supreme being they prayed to and received guidance from when this country was founded. Pretty old fashioned, I know. Stepping down off my soapbox now. You do realize that this surely can't mean only a Christian God, though, that most of our country seems to believe now, right? You do realize that a fair number of our founding fathers were not Christian? I don't think as many people are opposed to the term "God" as they are opposed to the fact that "God" is always interpreted by Americans these days as "the Christian God".

My interpretation of God is an eternal, divine, loving, Father in Heaven. He is the Father of Christians, Jews, Muslims, even athiests. Different religions have different names. Our Founding Fathers I'm sure had differing views of what "God" is. Can't prove it, but I think they all believed in a "God", whatever they conceived "God" to be.

AZVB, I would never put down your beliefs, however, there a couple of historical side notes in terms of our founders. First, they never proposed that our motto be "In God We Trust." That did not start showing up until100 years after this nation's founding during the civil war. It was not officially adopted until 1956. Also, the words "under God" in our Pledge of Allegiance, were not added until 1954. So in maybe our most visible cases of this countries dedication to "God" in whatever form we choose to worship her, neither had anything to do with the founders of this nation.
(I am sure that there were both the devout and quite non-devout among our founders. Anyone know about Ben /Franklin? My guess is that he would have been in the later category.)

MUNCIANA CHIPMUNKS ROCK! (I've always liked their name from way back in the late 80s)
And, yes, God is not dead.

Well, I'm not sure what to make of this. First post, and in the Off The Net section, with a link.
Please respond if this is not Spam -- or worse. Otherwise, I'm going to delete it.

Can we talk about which positions the leaders of our governments would play on the court?

Discussions about religion are now on the Political Ramblings board. The two always seem to morph together anyhow, and I think most would agree that the same problems arise.

Why would anyone want to talk about politics and religion when we have The Sound of Music and Julie Andrews to discuss?
