Publicity, perhaps?

Right. People telling you how crappy your website is. Great publicity.
My point is that I'd be willing to bet no one was even thinking about whether her name should be on the website roster or not. Then a bunch of people whined about it on VT, so someone decided maybe it should come off. Now mango says it was a vindictive act.
As I predicted would happen.
Same thing happened with the Carico "only transferring for a semester" BS last spring.
Better for them just to ignore the site ...

So, like I said when this first came up: Leave the name on the roster, get criticized. Take it off, get criticized. Any doubt now why the website is not a priority of the athletic department? What's in it for them? More importantly, what is in it for the student-athlete ? In this case, recognition that she has been a contributing member of the 2009 team. How many times do we see university officials put the institution before the student ? Interestingly, in this case, the decision to remove the name does more harm to the university persona which now seems trite and malodorous.

As David Bowie once told me, even bad publicity is good publicity.
From this forum, at least, there will be more interest than usual in the Gophers performance going forwards.
Since the bridge fell down, when has there been this much interest in Minnesota? Other than the other sporting saga, that is...

OR, as is more likely the case, it was someone responding to the general sentiment being voiced that the current roster should be the current roster. It only seems trite and malodorous if you choose to believe the reasons were trite and malodorous. Personally, I would have left it alone, even if it meant people were wondering about whether she might be coming back. Benign neglect is always best, when it comes to VT.

Ironically perhaps, Brook is rapidly closing on the "Transfer, retiring list" thread..

Since no one else has posted anything significant in 27 pages, I'll post something that I think narrows the field as to what led Ms. Dieter to leave the program. It's just something I noticed, but when there are several posts on her Facebook wall from friends saying, "you're in our prayers" or "I'll pray for you." I find that slightly interesting...

How does that narrow ANYTHING down? The only thing that does is make this thread more creepy.

Well, think about it! What usually causes friends and family to say those things? It means that something in the past week has happened to illicit those reactions from people, which possibly is the reason for her departure from the program.

I know that if I had a friend who came on a message board and posted things that were posted on my facebook page, I would wonder who my friends really were. If you are trying to say that Brook had a difficult decision to make and that she is comforted by prayer than so be it.
Can we all agree that there are no bad guys here. I would imagine that this is difficult in so many ways. It is a choice, and it is now done.
Move on.

Or perhaps it's simply the fact that she left the program that her friends are supporting her? Have you never heard someone say "I will keep you in my prayers" when they're simply just trying to find direction in life? Get that new job they're hoping for? Get accepted into a different school? I don't think "I'll keep you in my prayers" is AT ALL indicative of any sort of particular circumstance; these things could be said for many different reasons, and as I already said, they could be said simply BECAUSE she chose to leave the Minnesota team. Plus, it's creepy to share someone's 'private' messages on VT. (Unless Brook Dieter has a public Facebook profile, which I'm doubting.)
