How does a new thread get a "new" indicator (light blue box) preceding the subject. Whenever I create a new thread, no indicator appears. I see this using safari. When I checked on my pc using IE8 there were no indicators. Just trying to understand.

"New" only shows up if you haven't recently viewed that thread. If there has been recent activity on that thread since you last viewed it, the "new" graphic will show up.

When I checked on my pc using IE8 there were no indicators. Just trying to understand. Because you created the thread, you have already seen your own first post so it isn't "new" to you. The thread shows as "new" to everyone else. Once someone else adds a comment to your thread, then you will see the "new" indicator.
