i think the first question we should be asking is whether K5 will try to televise this regional semi. (i know the regional final is on espnu ... but i haven't seen anything about espnu airing the semis...) according to all the publications...ESPNU is only doing the finals here's hoping jon fink works something out with the ncaa ... ;D

i was watching the stanford-st mary's game after the win over usc and the stream broadcaster said that he will be back next week with the regionals so don't know if that means they are going to stream the games again.

Haen runs a pretty quick offense for the Illini, going mostly to DeBruler and McCulley on the left and Bartsch on the right. One potential weakness is that they don't set the middles all that much, but Bartsch is a big threat from the right, so you have to account for that. On the good side, Bangert isn't that big but is a great blocker who moves laterally as well as anyone I can remember and always seems to be in good position. I think there is a drop off from the L1 to L2 and especially the M1 to M2 for the Illini, but their fans disagree with me on that. They aren't overwhelming athletically, in my opinion, but they usually do enough to win. I am wondering how they will fare without Edinger, who made some highlight reel digs when the Illini were in Madison. I know they have done fine thus far, but this is a step up in competition. I am expecting a close match.

While our middles are never going to lead the team in kills they've both been improving offensively as the season progresses. Out L2 is hitting at over 3 kps. Feldman is doing much better than even I expected. It's true she isn't Edinger but few Libero's are. But IMO she's better than most.
I also expect it to be close. Hawaii's 12 seed was a joke. IMO there's no way the difference is a 5 seed to a 12. I think the polls were more accurate.

Judging from most posters here, Hawaii should walk over the supposedly overrated Illini. They do have history on their side as Illinois is 1-7 vs. Hawaii. Illinois' only win was back in '92 when they were co-champions with Penn State.
In the interest of fairness, since I haven't seen any Hawaii matches this year, what is the scouting reporting on them?

As a Hawaii fan I don't assume anything. A few years ago the Wahine met up with Missouri and got sent home in post-season play.

Over the season there have been several Hawaii fans saying Illinois was overrated. But then there have been a number of posters that post every school but their own are overrated. In general I think most Hawaii posters are too busy defending themselves from being in a "weak" conference to even notice Illinois. I know Hawaii has beaten us too many times for me to say anything nasty about them.

This looks to be an intriguing match up of: Danielson vs. DeBruler, Mafua vs. Haen, "weak" conference schedule vs. "tough", and wily veteran coach Shoji vs. rookie coach Hambly.
Stats-wise, Hawaii comes out on top easily.

I can't speak for other Hawai'i fans but I have been saying that Illinois is overrated pretty much all year. Illinois was not impressive in any of the matches I have seen them play (on TV) this year. I like DeBruler but Illinois doesn't get their middles involved enough and they don't have the floor defense of a top team. I think they are a good team but not a top 5 team. I'm not trying to disrespect the Illini, it's just my opinion based on the matches I have seen them play this season. Having said that, as evident by Washington's loss to CSU, anything can happen in the tournament.
