I watched the match on ESPN360 to start. I know not everyone can do that, but at least it was something. I just watched the replay of the match (the last 15 minutes, at least, because I wanted to hear the post-match commentary and interview).

It's not that I expect them to break away from a basketball match.
I expect them to have an IQ above 50 and not expect the basketball game to finish exactly at 8pm. Schedule one of their 30min updates between the game and the match.
Imagine if the freaking basketball game had gone into overtime!!!

Maybe some lead-in would be a good thing? We get three weeks of it for basketball and football.

I'm just happy they broadcast the match PERIOD!!! That being said it is disappointing to have a National Championship match not be a priority. You can write and complain all you want but until the interest (read $$$$) for VB meets or exceeds that for BB or football you'll just have to live with it.

ESPN-ABC has been making a regular habit of this kindof stuff. They did it to NASCAR on a critical late season race in 2008. ABC cut away from the 2nd to last race where JJ sewed up the championship to show Funniest videosor something. The race was bumped to an ESPN network without even an on-air announcement after a rain delay. Like 30000 race fans went ballistic with their letters and we didn't see the same stuff in 2009, the network set a schedule with some slack time.
Problem: I don't think VB has the clout to generate the letters to change this.

They would have aired the end of the bball game no matter what was coming up next... I think we should relax on that a little.

You guys ranting about this are idiots. What is ESPN going to do? Cut away from the basketball game that is going down to the wire. Oh, that would make a lot of people happy, particularly since there were probably more people watching the hoops game.
The NCAA could have delayed the start of the volleyball match if they were that concerned about the t.v. coverage.

That was terrible! at national championship vs/ a pre season basketball tourney. Volleyball gets no respect! Penn State showed tonight that they are the # 1 team in the nation. Even with the studs being totally off Hodge Glass Wilson they still won. How does that happen? Wilson could do nothing right until game 5 Hodge stunk it up no way played like player of the year. They are deep and the freshman really made a difference. The libero from Penn State was amazing!

Just a question, what entity will be selling the finals on DVD? Is it the NCAA or does ESPN have the rights? I'm just curious because there may be people who will buy this DVD just to see the first set in its entirety. A conspiracy theorist may say that this was intentional to boost sales.

It's being replayed today (see my thread) and probably will be throughout the weeks ahead. And some of us get it right on DVD as it's happening.

And how hard would it have been for ESPN to find HD broadcast equipment for a national championship match? The Big Ten Network shows every one of their regular-season volleyball matches in HD.

At least the match was live and not tape delayed.

I did not think the Figure Skating camera at only one end of the court added anything to the game. I could not see who received the serve and if it was a good pass. Poor camera selection.

Networks often sets the start time for football games to make it fit their schedule. I assume the same thing happens with BB. ESPN definitely showed no respect to the National Championship match by scheduling a BB game to end right at the same time as the volleyball match starts. If ESPN had any respect for the sport of volleyball they would have set up the BB game to start at least a half hour earlier if not an hour earlier.
