And a tall setter does not matter if she can't set as well, dig as well and just overall run a team as well as a shorter one. An dominant block from your setter is nice, but not essential. Agreed...and many assume just because a taller setter is chosen it's because they are better at blocking, etc.; when they could just as likely be better at setting and running an offense (e.g. Lloy Ball)

Lonewolf and Ruffda, Please send me a private message and lets schedule a match. I have a tall setter and 2 tall outsides that would love to hit over your short setter. Unless y our defination of short is 5'10 or higher.

Hey, what are you doing to my thread? We're not talking about setters, we're talking about liberos. And I just want to say that liberos that yell "mine" and want to take third balls drive me nuts. Get. out. of. the. way.
However, there is something that drives me nuttier- middles who yell "mine" so they can set the ball. Especially HS varsity MHs...

We called that the Craig Buck syndrome, back in da day.

Seriously, I keep telling these doofuses you spell his first name like he plays volleyball - no "D". They never, ever listen.

Feel free to read this thread and the setter thread (possibly again) for better understanding. As far as 5'10 being your consideration of short for a setter... a few quick notables from the last Olympic's Berg-5'8" Souza-5'8" Ramierez-5'9" Also...taller person does not = higher block touch, or better blocking.

I comprehend your point just fine. You know from previous posts that I wasn't happy with our short and slow olympic setters. Tall setters can be more offensive more often, and don't have to time their block as much. And if this libero thread is correct, having longer limbs and body frame will help get to bump sets easier and help with right back defense. And watch that ford F-150 comment, I test drove a new one a few weeks back and it had lots of bells and whistles and a smooth ride! Much more room and comfort than those short compact cars....hmmm...maybe we can learn something from that.
