I personally assisted Rachel Vukson with her transfer and know firsthand that there were three coaches in the conference who wanted to recruit her. This is not a negative reflection on Todd Dagenais. I also know people involved in this - this is NO reflection on Todd. There is nothing wrong with taking a player from a team in conference if that team is going to release her and allow her to play in conference. Todd did his job by getting a player he thinks will help his program. However, I do think Todd is feeling some heat. UCF may have let the previous coach "wither on the vine", but they SIGNIFICANTLY upped the ante when they brought Todd on board. I think he should get more than 3 years, but that does not change the fact he may be feeling it a little right now.

Is Todd suppose to be a good/great recruiter?

Lets see what will happens with Todd... There some other teams that are interesting... Like, what do you think about Southern Miss and how new coach will do? Is this last season for Memphis head coach? It looks like they had good pre season, a lot of new players, mainly from Serbia. guy that is assistant over there already helped to re build program like Oregon, I think he could do same with Memphis? Is Tulane really going to have a bad season?

I personally assisted Rachel Vukson with her transfer and know firsthand that there were three coaches in the conference who wanted to recruit her. This is not a negative reflection on Todd Dagenais. Most D1 conferences require a volleyball player to sit out a year if they transfer to another school within their conference (intra-conference transfer). Conference USA does not have that requirement. Consequently, even though Rachel Vukson was Tulsa's top setter last season, she was able to transfer to UCF and play this season.

Actually, the Conference USA does have that provision, but the requirement to sit out a year can be waived by the institutions involved. Tulsa waived the requirement.

Actually, the Conference USA does have that provision, but the requirement to sit out a year can be waived by the institutions involved. Tulsa waived the requirement. That's not correct. There is no such Conference USA provision for its member institutions to waive. Any volleyball player at a C-USA school can transfer to another C-USA school without having to sit out a year, unless the school that the player is transferring from objects to the transfer. But the previous school doesn't have to formally waive anything. Any C-USA Associate Commissioner will confirm that this is true. In the case of Rachel Vukson, Tulsa didn't object...and they wouldn't away, since C-USA's policy is to keep good athletes "in the conference", and not have them transfer to other conferences just because things didn't work out at their previous school. Consequently, Tulsa didn't have to formally waive any rights.

Marshal beat UCF in 3... back to back... Mich is really good coach. One of the best coaches in conference if not the best. Interested to see how Tulsa will do this weekend in Memphis without Vukson.

vbfanvbfan asks if Tulane is really going to have a bad season?
It may be hard to tell from their pre-conference record, but Tulane has been pretty competitive, despite their ugly w/l record. I was in the stands at the New Mexico Tournament (Stanford, New Mexico, and Pepperdine), and then most recently at the one they just hosted. And, while they finished a disappointing 1-2 at Fogleman (Sam Houston State, Oregon, FIU) including a tough 5 set loss to FIU, the very young team has made some big strides. With only one returning senior starter from last year, I'm hoping the young pups (Mel, Azari, Cori) come together and generate some victories. The relatively tough pre-conference schedule is coach Sinisa Momic's way of accelerating the growth of his team.
We'll see if it pays dividends starting this weekend against Houston!
Go Green Wave!

Good luck to your team this year. I am sure they will be better in years to come...

I think Tulsa should do really well this weekend vs Memphis--they have the top hitter and top libero, and the setter has adjusted nicely. The only problem is they have no block.

Going to state it right now.............I think the top three teams are going to be SMU, Tulsa, Rice based on what? looks to me that there is not a dominant team or teams, so conference is wide open. Tulsa - good team, but for me need to show they can rely in conference on other players other than the 40% sets that go to Henderson. Rice - a mystery to me so far, but I think tough non conference schedule helps them in conference. SMU - not much, if any, of a consistent volleyball winning tradition. need to show on the court they can beat tougher conference teams. watched them on tv the other night against TCU. talent and defense is there, but looked inconsistent & lacked focus at times. UCF - sorry but think their 7 - 0 season start got hopes up they will be crushed during conference. not a stat guy, but I presume their positive stats result from the 7 - 0 start and will even out as the season progresses. I seem to recall Vuckson having a strong assist average per game which has dropped considerable. Marshall - lots of potential, but I think the young talent will not sustain a high level of play and subsequently wins during a 20 conference game schedule. In their favor are their double matches against weak UCF and E. Carolina teams. Tulane - record looks bad, but a tough non conference schedule helps in conference play. lack of a post season conference tournament hurts them. Utep, Houston, E. Carolina, S. Miss, Memphis & UAB in bottom half of conference I predict.

You mentioned that Vukson's assists average has dropped considerably. This is because the coach sometimes tries a 6 2 and she shares setting duties. Twice he put her in at the very end of a set where she got 1 assist each time.
